Not true.

I am one of the parents of a relatively low GPA engineering kid. I am not saying GPA doesn’t matter. What I am saying is that even engineers with low GPAs land on their feet. No, they don’t get the first pick of jobs, but they don’t end up at Trader Joe’s, either.

I think you just described why GPA is very important.

Well good luck to you as you go through life and don't end up at the tippy top of every group you join.

We all know it is important, but the tone here and on DCUM in general that only kids at top ten schools are kids to be proud of, and only kids who get the best of grades are kids to be proud of... well those notions are wrong.

I think everyone with a GPA below ~2.6 in my engineering program was counseled out by the end of sophomore year.

At some point, you have to realize that maybe you aren't cut out for it.

From your perspective, yes, I understand.

Engineering is not IT field, really? Why do you have network engineering and platform engineering positions in newspapers?

What was your undergraduate major? Some type of engineer?

Because...you don’t really seem familiar with engineering.

I graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio State University and a 2.4 GPA. I did not get the dream job, just a job but was fired after three months for not knowing what I was doing. I learned cybersecurity and got both CISSP and PMP certifications. I am now making 300k/yr with gov. security clearance, a lot more than a typical Mechanical Engineer. Low GPA might not get you your dream job but it will get you a job.
