It means freedom. Her father gave her the name after being unjustly held in a British jail for a crime he did not commit. Listen to the Pogues for gods sake.

Yeah it stii doesn't change the fact it's virtually unpronounceable.

Who criticizes a young deceased girl who had no choice in her name? And who obviously suffered deeply from depression? Classy, very classy. Fwiw, there are many gaelic names that are hard to pronounce to us but not to the people over there. Would you criticize Lupita Nyong'o for having a strange name?

Lupita is isn't hard to pronounce , in fact I've heard far more people say the like her name than that soerse. She could simply go by Lupita for the rest of her life and very few people would have to bite their tongues to pronounce her name. I'll be generous and give you an E for effort though. Your comparison is comically sad.

Not pp but, can you please let it go and focus on more important things than how to pronounce her name and why her parents hated her for naming her that? ( I disagree btw) A young women is dead and you are going on and on. I think both Lupita is just as difficult to pronounce and I'm sure there are plenty others.

Lupita is not as difficult to pronounce . Be bitter all you want

How do you figure on me being bitter? Had I not heard these names being pronounced I wouldn't know how to. They are BOTH difficult for a lot of people. Not you, but you are unique. Annoying and "unique".

Her name is the Gaelic word for freedom. Appropriate as her father was released from an English prison after being falsely imprisoned for blowing up a pub.

The more I read these stories the more I think it is the Skakel influence that is causing the problems and not necessarily the Kennedy influence (not that they are perfect by any stretch of the imagination. Chappaquidick and all) butvtge Skakels are one messed up family and Ethel (as a Skakel) was responsible for 11 of those messed up kids.

NP in this thread, and you are either very bitter, or there is something wrong with you, or both. Someone's child has died tragically, and you keep snarking about her name. What the hell is wrong with you? Get help.

What about the Irish and English paternal grandparents ? Her English grandfather pushed her father out
of the house at age 7 and his Irish mother let him do it.

They said she was not into partying or doing drugs, but then they described her last night, and she was out at two different clubs - partying - and returned home at 2am.

Which is it?

Damage control? She was 22. It’s not unusual to go to bars and drink. And she was instagramming her night. Not sure why the family felt the need to pretend she wasn’t a normal 22 yo. It’s not like the police brought her home the night before.

I know as I've read all the articles myself. How does it make me bitter for pointing out that it is a difficult name to pronounce? Sad story btw.

I am sad about the death of this person. Where did you get the idea I was not? The person before me said it was easy to pronounce. And I disagreed. I love how you say "get help" and I'm bitter. Where would I actually go to get help? How actually am I bitter? That makes zero sense. How is it snark? And you can't just write the same thing over and over.

Me: I wrote that this Irish name on DCUM is difficult to pronounce. doctor? Help me!

Doctor: It is difficult and how can I help?

Exactly. I would not judge any 20 something for going out and having fun. There is no shame in that. However, it was odd that so many articles were written to expressly talk about how she was not a partier. Just odd.

Please stop arguing over the name pronunciation. You both are very weird that you are going on and on like this. Please try to enjoy your night.

Maybe she wasn't and the going out clubbing was out of character. I would absolutely have been/still be described as not a partier, but would go out once or twice a summer...
