You seriously doubt? I seriously think they will. |
While a forced triple wouldn't surprise me, revoking their spot certainly would. I am curious. Do you have any direct experience with VA Tech that makes you believe this or are you just talking out your ass? |
NP. What a lovely person you are. FYI, GMU took away uppergrad housing when it was oversubscribed for freshman. UVA is tripling up. GMU turned triples into quads. UVA is doing the same. |
It seems like you are. Housing is taken away all of the time, even if it is only a few hundred over the limit. Right now VT is 1500 over the limit. They barely have any infrastructure down in Blacksburg to accommodate even a few hundred over. With this much over, turning triples in some dorms won't even come close to helping with this amount of kids. Have you called and they assured you your child is absolutely guaranteed their housing. I bet you have not.... |
This happened to our daughter first year at GMU. She was assigned to a quad that had previously been a double or triple. We worked with the housing office to find her a remaining single (and of course paid extra). But that year GMU was not oversubscribed. Now it is and upper classmen are upset that they don't have dorm privileges next year because the guaranteed dorms go to the freshmen. Also, the PP is right about housing stock in Blacksburg. It's a small community - there just isn't that much there. |
| Just what I thought, you all have no idea what Va Tech may or may not do. You're just talking out your asses about what other school may have done in the past. |
NP: Well, yeah, but then your assuredness that they won't do it also has similar origins... Personally, given that there's other schools that have done it gives precedent, that VT hasn't been in this extreme a situation yet with housing, that there's no easy housing solution available, I'd tell my DC to be on the squeaky wheel list making sure their housing is set in stone. It's not like the people are putting these concerns out just to bug you or come down on VT. |
| A 15% miss is huge. That is what waitlists are for. |
When you accept a huge increase in URM’sand first generation, they should have known yield would increase. Pretty stupid |

New: over 8000 in freshman class confirmed.

So they’re planning on trying to sweet talk some of the freshman into a spring or summer start? What a cluster. |
| I have to say, VT was my son's first choice but now I'm secretly relieved he was not admitted. I think we dodged a bullet here. |
My daughter was accepted but thankfully didn’t choose. It was a little too conservative for her. So thankful too though. |
| They can try to get students to start in the summer and offer classes into the night, but they can only fit so many students in their dorms and their cafeteria. I've heard from a Va Tech junior that their lines in the cafeteria are already terrible. |
Wow. I was angry when this news first broke, because it seemed to show an unacceptable level of incompetence that they botched the numbers so badly. This is making me start to think it was intentional, that they knew it would suck, and are trying to hide behind “just one of those things—some years you over-enroll.” So now I’m even angrier! I just don’t see how they can maintain the quality of education or services they have been advertising to bring all of these students here. These families are going to put down $$$ for this?!?! |
