As I said, I am not saying it is a bad thing. However, if you have hardship getting these parents "engaged" in school activities, that means they were not previously thinking about using these time on school issues. Now, if they suddenly become willing to do so, then for the same time/effort spent, if they spend that, on their individual children directly (e.g. help them with homework, or, simply talk to them about school), that would clearly be more effective. Why would they choose to spend the time for those activities that only indirectly helps their child feeling better? |
