Best revenge you ever got on someone?

There was a lot of damage to people on the periphery and my actions created a toxic environment that curdled over time. A couple years ago I sought advice on a different relationship forum on how to navigate all this turmoil during the funeral of a close friend. I'll copy and paste some of what I wrote in that post:

I went to check my email on our shared computer and discovered it was already logged into an account my (now ex) wife had made to correspond with her affair partner. When I realized who this other person was, a lot of things made sense in hindsight about how my wife had been acting the past several months. The top email included the hotel, room number, and time they were set to meet.

I picked up her elderly (and very traditional) parents and told them I had a surprise. I took them up to the hotel and found the room. I pretended to be room service when I knocked and my wife answered in a state of undress. Her parents were really confused and she was extremely embarrassed, then immediately angry. I said something like "have a nice life" and left. From what I heard, my wife had to rely on her affair partner to drive her parents home since my wife didn't have her own car at the hotel.

She thrives on her parent's opinion of her. She always felt growing up that she never measured up to their standards, so their approval was very important to her. Marriage is a big value to them, and she got caught red handed cheating. From what I understand, she is still very much on bad terms with her father as a result.

Holy sh#t, that's brutal.
What were the last ramifications to "people on the periphery?" Did your common friends side with you or her?

No. Graduate stuxents doing work towards their PhDs get a salary called a stipend. That will be taxed. And if your employer gives tuition assistance that will be taxed.

It's more than just taxing the stipend. Many graduate degrees are tuition free. The GOP bill proposes to tax the value of that education. So right now, a grad student earns $20,000 and gets and education worth $80,000.

Right now, that grad student, if they have other income will pay on that $20,000. In the future, they would have to pay taxes on $100,000.

So much winning.

Looks like the GOP is finally going to take care of their own, like the Dems have been doing forever. Academia is 99 percent hostile to conservatives so what's the down side for Republicans? This won't be the last bill that disadvantages college campuses. I'd like to see a tax on billion-dollar university endowments.

Seriously? You want to tank our nation’s intellectual future over partisan politics?

You’re happy to starve cancer research programs and the arts and threaten comp sci advances to score one against your political opponents? You suck, and so do the many members of your party who think like this.

Here's to looking stupid. Dick pick forwarding lady, I salute you!

Sometimes I'd rather look stupid than smug and condescending. But that's just me.

Nice!

Well I'd like to tax those disgusting megachurches and their slimy pastors preaching the Prosperity Gospel. They make me sick. But I don't believe in punishing people for their political beliefs because I'm not a Stalinist.

And it's simple:the GOP hates education because the more educated you are, the less likely you are to fall for their B.S. and vote for them.

These are the same institutions that have taken advantage of students who receive government loans and have continued to increase tuition annually. Something drastic needs to be done. The fact many have huge endowments with staff making 6-7 figure salaries while most of their students are graduating with student loans is disgusting.

And why should the Federal government subsidize your useless Ph.D in epistemological philosophy? MD JD and MBA who take out loans to finance their educations are charged interest on top of being taxed on the eventual income that is then used to pay off loans. If your degree can't handle the cost it takes to get it, then maybe it's not worth our tax dollars either and better for all of us that you don't get it.

except for computer science phds there is a vast oversupply of phds compares to jobs available. not saying tuition taxing is a solution but something has to be done about this. academia has become serfdom for vast majority of people while a small number of superstars lead lavish lives.

Still the same broken, unhappy person inside though. And nothing is going fix that.

Yup. New boobs won't fix that, sadly. My DH's ex tried that. She is still miserably unhappy 20 something years later despite being married to a really great guy. She really thought plastic surgery would fix her somehow.

I do not think you understand how it works. As a grad student, I received a Stipend. I also received a tuition waiver -- that meant I did not pay tuition, which was worth more than my stipend. I never saw the cash for the tuition waiver. I just did not have to pay tuition. Lets say, I was earning 20K, and tuition was 40K. Under the current law, I paid tax on 20k -- my earnings. Under the house bill, I pay tax on 60K, my earnings & the tuition waiver.
