I'm from the NE and visited winchester, va and was surprised with all the confederate street names - jubal early, stonewall jackson - why so much love to these people?

What i don't get is why are confederate names and symbols allowed but in Germany they made it a criminal offense to laud nazi-ism post ww2.

Why didn't we take the same step?

Protests in public streets and parks and on sidewalks get the highest form of constitutional protections. Any restrictions are reviewed under strict scrutiny. Why do you hate our Constitution?
