No. He'd have to go through the placement process which includes time in a dcps school. |
Except that since Lab is a private school, it has its own admission and scholarship process. He could get a "merit" scholarship. |
True - he could. But the PPP was suggesting tuition paid for by OSSE. I don't think he'll attend Lab though. |
It's no where near that high. It's really hard to get your kid into the Lab School. Proof? I used to run that office. |
Not necessarily. No OSSE is not going to pay for Trump's kid to attend the Lab School. It doesn't work like that. |
| This entire situation is horrendous. Ellington will end-up costing DCPS $150M in cost overruns and this? |
Agreed. After all this time, Ellington is still a shell. The 'prime' contractor seems to have been chosen for its local political connections and is probably skimming off a healthy margin while the affiliated contractor does the actual work. |
| Ellington needs to be investigated also, but this thread is about the near gift of DCPS buildings to a private school |

Large houses in Georgetown rent for 10-15K/month and The Lab School got a entire school for 50 yrs. for virtually nothing.
It could've been opened tomorrow and filled with kids from the neighborhood. This is sad. |
Amazing there has been nothing about this in the media. You would think an "emergency vote" and a 50 year lease for $80K would warrant at least a few lines in the Washington Post. |
| Councilmember Cheh is highly intelligent. She's a professor of law, you know. No doubt she knows and decides what is best for her Ward. Who are you to question her superior judgment? |

There was actually an article about this in the Washington Post on December 2. It looks like it was written off of Lab press releases and doesn't question why one particular private school is being given a sweetheart deal on DC land and notes that the deal has "broad support" (something not so evident from the discussion on this board). Nor does it point out that $6.50/square foot (the cost Lab will pay after discounting the costs of renovations) would be an incredible deal in Idaho, let alone a nice area of Washington DC.

That story is from 2013. |
Oops! Yeah, then the Post needs to get on its game and update its coverage 3 years later. |
