+1 the kids at lab are primarily the lucky subsegment of the SN population ones whose parents can pay 45-60k for their education annually or pay for a good special needs lawyer to fight DCPS so that they pay.

The DC ones, yes. But most of the kids are from out of state. The latest OSSE audit shows a total of 46 DCPS-funded kids out of an enrollment of around 375.

Just updating a bit. http://www.labschool.org/page/about/mission--fast-facts

np: Updating what? The info on the link is general marketing and does nothing but confirm total enrollment.

PP updated the enrollment number to 375 from 350 and changed "DC" to "DCPS-funded." It's actually more complicated than that, 45 DCPS-funded and 1 PCS-funded.

Latest OSSE audit is here:
http://osse.dc.gov/sites/default/files/dc/sites/osse/publication/attachments/2015%20Enrollment%20Audit%20Report.pdf

It's 45 DCPS, 2 PCS -- both Two Rivers.

Plus one DCPS at Lab School of Baltimore.

Emailed both Cheh and Grosso to complain about this, and both basically told me to politely f- off. What's alarming to me is how councilmembers Cheh and Grosso are willing to burn bridges with their constituents over this issue, it's that important to them.

Grosso has just been responding with the text of his statement introducing the resolution, which I assume was written by a Lab School lobbyist. I hear they hired David Catania to push this through.

Grosso's isn't called "Grass-o" for nothing. His main interest seems to center on making pot as legally available as possible.

I f you all keep voting them back on, this is what you get. Vote Republican . ANYONE labeled Republican for every council spot that opens. If they live in D.C. They're likely quite moderate . I'm so ready for a change.

Did you see the post above saying Catania (R turned I, who most of Ward 3 thinks was their education savior) was supposedly lobbying for this?

Exactly. Most kids who go to Lab live in DC even if they don't get funding.

Lots of DC kids go to Sidwell too -- should the city be subsidizing them too? Lab is a private school. There's no justification for this deal.

Cite for that? My recollection from the last go-round was that the vast majority came from Maryland.

+1. This data discussion is irrelevant. The problem is that the DC government is giving a way-below-market-price deal to a private organization without following proper procedures (eg, allowing others to bid).

Exactly. And every taxpayer in DC should be up in arms about this.

If Trump Jr goes to Lab, does DC get to pay for that too?
