Am I the only one who thinks Kate Middleton is anorexic?

I said that. Anorexia as a disorder has nothing to do with weight. Extreme thinness is sometimes but not always a symptom. Anorexia is a mental disorder/illness that at its core is about control, not weight loss. You start out feeling like you're a master of self control, but in the end, it controls you, not the other way around. I don't think Kate is there yet. I think she's still in the driver's seat. But she is playing a dangerous game, especially considerlong how little control she must feel she has in other areas of her life.

Severely restricting your diet does not make you an anorexic or have an eating disorder. Again, this is wishful thinking on your part.

Would you call an otherwise healthy vegan anorexic?

How about people like me who shun junk food and packaged foods. Sure in the context of a standard American diet, you can call that a severe restriction. I call that not wanting to eat crap.

You clearly don't understand what food restriction means in the context that the PP was talking about. It's not about picking and choosing what KINDS of food you eat. It's about restricting ALL types of food. Or in some cases eating food, but doing so at dangerously low levels of caloric intake. Vegan/healthy food choices do not apply here.

Okay, so you're basically calling her an anorexic. How exactly do you know that she restricts ALL foods?

PP doesn't know one iota about this woman's life - but she sure does enjoy conjecture!

If you are naturally skinny to the point where your bones are poking out and your face is sunken, you should probably gain a few pounds. Your body will thank you when you are older.

Terrible that women think it's okay to comment on another woman's body. You never know what someone is going through. Thyroid or other health issues, mental issues causing severe stress, etc. It's just as nasty to call her anorexic as it is to call an overweight person names and labels.

Absolutely. Let's imagine the reaction if this was a thread about public figures or actresses who could stand to lose some weight - you know, for "their health." Some women are unbelievably hypocritical.

Kate Middleton looks great, she honestly does. I think there's a whole bunch of wishful thinking going on here, by women who only wish there was something wrong with her so they could feel better about themselves.

If you're so gaunt that the skin is drooping off your face at 33, you have a problem.

Serious question: what are you even talking about? Her skin isn't "drooping off her face"! What a bizarre comment. She looks beautiful.

Now this is straight up delusion. You havent seen the pictures of her face posted in this thread? Her skin is drooping down, causing gauntness and hollowness under her cheekbones. That's not even talking about the pronounced wrinkles on her forehead and by her eyes that I would more expect to see on a 60 year old than someone her age.

I've seen all of the pictures posted on this thread, and here's another very recent one for you: http://www.vanityfair.com/style/2015/11/kate-middleton-prince-william-facebook-twitter-cyberbullying. There is no skin hanging off her face! Talk about delusion. Post a picture of yourself so we can tell you what's wrong with your face.

I'm a NP. I agree that Kate's skin is "drooping off her face" (though she's still very pretty). She has a skinny-jowly look, and her skin is that of a much older woman. This reminds me a lot of someone I know who smokes heavily, though, and I suspect that heavy smoking is more Kate's issue than anorexia.

You people are wack jobs. There's nothing wrong with Kate. I can't imagine the faces and body shapes behind all of these nasty posts.

And that amount of weight does not just fall off. She must have worked hard.

It does if you nurse your babies. I had two babies back to back and nursed them both and was skinny as a bean while eating a ton back in the day.
5'8" and 120 lbs (after gaining 40 lbs with each baby).
It's called being young!

Now that I'm 50 here are the 25 more lbs - it's called not being young anymore . Darn!

I get incredibly irritated by people saying someone (anyone, not just Princess Catherine) "looks anorexic." You cannot "look" anorexic because there is no one way that those who suffer from anorexia look. You CANNOT identify how ill some is (or isn't!) by the way they look.

Case in point: I had anorexia for many, many years. Because my "healthy" frame is large, and I naturally have a very round face, even at 90 pounds (at 5'9"), my face did not look all that gaunt and my clavicles barely stuck out. My neck, ribs, and hips were the biggest "clues" of my very low weight; my face barely showed my emaciation. I wore loose dresses, large sweaters, and thick tights so often that it was very difficult to see how much my hips and ribs protruded. To most people, I didn't "look" anorexic.

Another example: Having suffered from anorexia for many years, and having been in many treatment programs, I tragically knew many people who lost their battles with their eating disorders. While most of the victims who were of "normal weight" had bulimia (not anorexia), some of the people who died of the effects of anorexia were, to most people, "just thin." Some were, for example, 5'4" and around 100-110 pounds, 5'10" and around 130-140 pounds, or 5'7" and around 120-125 pounds. They DIED from the effects of their anorexia nervosa, but were NOT extremely underweight. Weight does NOT always equal degree of illness.

Sorry to get on my soapbox, but this is something about which I am quite passionate.

No, it does not always indicate illness, but it sometimes does. Especially once it is below a certain weight. Depending on how severe one's condition is, you certainly can "look" anorexic. That is not the determining factor though, I don't think anyone has said that. I personally don't think Kate looks anorexic, or severely underweight. I do think she would benefit from gaining a few pounds. But that is just my opinion and none of us know the correct answer to that, since we don't know any details about her physical condition. She could be perfectly healthy, or she could be underweight. It's impossible to say from a fully clothed picture.

That's debatable. Sever studies indicate underweight people live longer than average sized.

Not to mention, people who eat very low calorie diets (lower than what the FDA recommends) generally live longer.

This.

True but in Kate Middleton's case if you see pictures of her from 5 years ago it's very clear that she's not built the way she looks now. I don't know if she's anorexic but I do think she's under tremendous pressure and one of the things she can control is what and how much she eats.

Exactly. She was never even close to being overweight but she had a more athletic build and I think her face has changed quite dramatically, too. She used to be much more round/full in her cheeks. She is beautiful either way, but her weight loss is very noticeable.

Yes. Her face is quite gaunt now. In addition to the wrinkles (faster aging is a consequence of anorexia) you can see the gauntness in her cheeks

I cannot believe this poor gal is just 33 years old.

Kate Middleton is known to embrace the sun, so I would just assume that her premature aging is a result of sun damage.

She looks like the average skinny white chick to me. I don't see this "drooping" on her face face.

This pictures are from the last couple of months.

The "drooping" looks like overdone "contouring" (which I admittedly don't exactly understand) to me.

She looks fabulously healthy and radiant. I'd kill to look like her. Those of you saying she's "aging prematurely" are crazy. Or just insanely jealous.

Oh Lord, we've had this discussion already.

No, she is not anorexic. Anorexia is a rare and life-threatening mental illness. Not every thin person is anorexic.

Europeans are generally much thinner than Americans (not exactly hard!).

Some people find it hard to gain weight at certain points in their life - my mother is like this, and she eats quite normally.

She is probably very conscious of her image and has the means to perfect it - which again, in Europe, is a perfectly good one.

+1. Whenever we visit DH's family in Europe, I'm also amazed at how consistently thin all of these athletic people who eat well are. The difference between them and what you see in the U.S. is amazing.

HA and they smoke a ton!

Anorexics have a very hard time getting pregnant. Kate had zero problems. She's very tall, naturally thin but also athletic. Look at her entire family.
