It looks like the department is in chapter 5-8 of the budget book. And they're slated to drop a Grade 16 Admin Secretary III and add a N Coordinator (C) So salaries in FY 2025 was $1,061,182 to $996,186 for FY 2026, where it looks like they lost a position and then proposed to $1,258,289 for next year. In FY 2025 total amount for the department was $1,1384,94 and proposed for $1,705,289 for next year. Depending on what they do, like you said I think having people ensure equity is important in the school system. ie they make sure that resources are allocated appropriately across the school system. And I don't think anyone really takes online training seriously and it wouldn't be as effective. |

Again, which positions are being cut? I don't have access to the tranches list. |
Do folks know how many of the positions on the first two pages (the ones still in line to be cut) are SEIU vs MCEA positions? Theoretically either union could agree to give up some of their raises to avoid layoffs, but I would assume reducing MCEA raises would save a lot more money but they'd be less motivated to do so if most of the cuts are to SEIU jobs... |

I think Special Ed Resource Teachers, Social Workers, and Pupil Personnel Workers are MCEA positions-- not sure if any of the others area. So that's like 100 of the 450 positions currently in line to be cut under the budget that Council's about to pass. |
They won't be cut |
They’ll keep their positions. Teachers and staff just won’t get their step and cola increases. |
Will MCEA give up their COLA increases to save mostly-SEIU positions, though? |
They are doing it for shock value. Last year they said how vital they all were and hired more. |
If that happens, central office, taylor and boe shouldn't get increases either. |
Probably on balance the aggregate cost of the MCEA positions is not that different from the SEIU positions |
The increases are very expensive. They don't need to claw them all back, just a portion. |
Haha, good one, and I’m a SEIU member who is likely going to lose their job. My fellow SEIU coworkers wouldn’t even give up their raise to save us. At this point, everyone is looking out only for their own interests. |
