Ford pretty much needs to bury the story and just wait for Trump to create a mess somewhere else (which is happening daily at this point), because terminating this guy will be disastrous for their brand.

I guarantee his CBA has a just cause discharge provision which is protected by arbitration. Ford can probably get away with a written warning maybe even a one week suspension but if they fire him, they will lose at arbitration and have to pay him back wages for a nice long vacation. They all know this. People this is one reason you want a union — just cause protection is super helpful.
