I don’t think the Union will be able to save him.  He wasn’t suspended for Union activity related reasons or voicing  a grievance about a work related issue.  Your first amendment isn’t protected on the job.  You don’t get to say whatever you want about anything you want at work. [/quote]

I guarantee his CBA has a just cause discharge provision which is protected by arbitration.  Ford can probably get away with a written warning maybe even a one week suspension but if they fire him, they will lose at arbitration and have to pay him back wages for a nice long vacation.  They all know this.  People this is one reason you want a union — just cause protection is super helpful.[/quote]
