Trump pardons roughly 1,500 criminal defendants charged in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack

Anonymous
This excerpt from Heather Cox Richardson’s letter today…

His pardon also included Daniel Rodriguez, who was sentenced to 12 and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to tasing Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone, who suffered cardiac arrest and a traumatic brain injury. “Omg I did so much f---ing s--- r[ight] n[ow] and got away,” he texted to his gang. “Tazzed the f--- out of the blue[.]”

The way Trump gloated about leaving 1,600 people stranded in Afghanistan - children, families of our military, people who fought alongside us, people trying to flee the Taliban - he gloated over the fact that he abandoned them to make room for these violent criminals who attacked our country in his name.

My gawd, Maga, how do you even sleep at night?

While I do fall into the law and order crowd, I think compassion for the imprisoned is a good thing. It reminds us of our national humanity and the opportunity for redemption. These people went through trials, were convicted and served time. Many of them have already completed their sentences. This will restore their voting rights and second amendment rights.

I would encourage Democrats to leave hate behind. Hate will consume you and destroy your inner peace. Have compassion for your fellow Americans and let us all hope these people make the most of the second chance they have been compassionately given. If they go on to lead productive lives loving their families then that will be far better than anything achieved through harsh punishments! Choose love, not hate!

As for President Trump, what a wonderful and compassionate statement to open his second term as President. 1500 people have been given a second chance. Think of how much joy and happiness their families are experiencing this morning. What could be more American than that?

Hi Senate employee who was working on Jan 6 in a non-political position serving both parties here. What Trump did by pardoning these criminals is say it is ok to beat cops, terrorize people, and destroy our public buildings/institutions for political gain. It is not ok what he did. It is not ok what the J6 folks did. And the attempt to rewrite history won’t work. I wish nothing but the worst for each of these J6 people. They are the absolute worst Americans in our country. They should be treated as pariah. And you should be ashamed of yourself! Proudly displaying your ignorance is disgusting.

It should be noted that J6 did some time for their crimes. The Biden crime family has committed ten years worth of federal crimes and won't serve a single day prison.

Nobody is saying what they did is okay.

If you really believe they should be treated as pariahs then you seem to reject any redemption for them ever. Your hated is consuming you.

Leave the hate behind and hope that these people can make the most of their second chance in life.

Shut up with your “Biden crime family” conspiracy! J6 was real and we have the footage.

Oh, I get it. You're one of them. That's why you're so happy about it.

Clearly you weren’t a victim of the J6 insurrection so you couldn’t possibly comprehend what all of us are going through. Stop telling anyone how to feel. Who TF do you think you are??

What do all the members of Congress who were nearly attacked on January 6 (but for the LEO) have to say about this pardon of violent criminals who tried to overturn their work and our election results? When will Republican electeds have any spine?

But Biden has shown that he doesn’t care about the rule of law with his clemencies and pardons. The cash-for-kids judge was at least as bad as these traitors. The family pardons are just a slap in the face. At this point, I don’t see why Trump should be held to a different standard than Biden. Biden picked his horrific criminals to favor, let Trump pick his.

I’m numb to it. Trump, Biden, they’re the same and neither cares about the rule of law. Whatever.

Trump made no secret of the fact that he had a vendetta against those public servants for doing their job and the Biden family. He has also proven that he is above the rule of law and can do whatever the f*ck he wants to whoever. So what would you do if you were Biden? Leave all of these innocent people to Trump’s devices? Make no mistake. Trump’s threats forced Biden to do this. You would do the same. Trump’s cruelty has no bounds, and Biden did the noble thing by sacrificing his own legacy to protect them. And now, thanks to Trump’s vindictiveness, this precedent is set and will likely be the new norm.

And if you are equating Fauci, one if the most renowned medical experts in the world, to the J6 attackers, I call BS in your “these last two months” claim.

I hope they’re force to live under a bridge like many people who served time. They deserve nothing in life. Losers.

Yes, they are. Trump has said many times that they did nothing wrong. And maga sheep listened to him instead of watching it with their own eyes.

Tarrio was convicted of sedition and sentenced to 22 years. He is released. This is ridiculous.

Since Trump has taken away our justice system to soothe his own ego about his election loss, what can we do? Someone upthread mentioned a webpage listing all of these names that employers and others can cross reference before hiring. Sounds like a good start. Maybe a social media account that features each convict and their crimes that rotates each day. We can’t as a country release these violent criminals from the consequences of their crimes.

Let's make sure to refine that. This rule only applies to Trump's cult followers. Don't try this if you are not a MAGA. You will go to jail for a long time.

I mean, he was seditioning on Trump's behalf. Of course Trump would pardon him if he was ever reelected.

Trump should likewise have been charged with all of these crimes. But out of respect for his former office, he wasn't. And now here we are.
