4% of US Catholics are black. This lines up with the percent of blacks at Notre Dame. Notre Dame is a religious school and has different institutional priorities than secular universities. |
Right. Berkeley belongs in top 10. |
Agree. ND is well known for its religious priorities and the students it attracts. Why anyone would expect different percentages of ND is ludicrous. Move on folks. |
s But it has become very difficult to get into both UCLA and Berkeley from OOS |
Right which is precisely why it has "haters" because people who aren't Catholic do not share those institutional priorities. It's a double edged sword. You can't whine about how people don't respect ND enough and then when people say "well here is why I don't respect ND as much as you want me to" then whine that those are unfair expectations because it's a religious school with different priorities. |
+1. Lots of non-Catholics playing football |
ND has a lower percentage of black students even than most other academically rigorous Catholic universities. Yes this owes something to its location but the argument that everyone should just stop picking on ND is actually what is ludicrous. Is ND just a little Catholic school that wants to be left alone or does it want to be viewed as a top university on a global level. If the latter then people will continue to hold it to the same standards as other top universities which are significantly more diverse. If this bugs you stop complaining when people dismiss ND as provincial and cloistered. |
They have shuttle and students go to Chicago for concerts, hanging out, etc. My kid visited Chicago multiple times. South Bend is actually better than UVA or VT towns. |
the ND argument is like Vassar not having enough guys. It attracts who it attracts. |
ND is a solid T20 school with shit ton of endowment, 7th largest. Great all around for undergrad education.
One of the last schools to worry about lol Move on |
Middlebury = Grinnell
Suuuuure |
not for my kid's major, CS. UMD is far ahead. |
+1. MD is in boring South Bend and it's bitterly cold, as in lake wind cold. Go read student comments in College Confidential and Reddit |
DD just starting at UCLA. Campus life is really great, albeit getting classes a vit like Game of Thrones. Would not thrive in middle of nowhere. Likes her Sweetgreens, beach etc. It is not the one percent, which is refreshing. Humble people at their dream school. |
HaHaHa! No. I live in Charlottesville and have been to South Bend. No contest. Blacksburg, however, is very small but the students adore it |
