Haven't toured W&M but Richmond was the loveliest campus of the mid sized schools we toured.

I agree Richmond’s campus is lovely just a note that it is not midsize, it is a small school like SLAC sized with an undergrad enrollment of about 3,200. Not tiny like some SLACS but def not mid sized.

Sweet spot mid size schools are typically 6,000-10,000 undergrad. W&M for instance is about 7,000

that’s where the advantage clearly tips to Davidson- at around 2000 students, it’s the perfect size for everyone. Real cozy and intimate feel and fosters true relationships between students and faculty alike. And better D1 sports than the other schools mentioned - anyone ever hear of Steph Curry?

So many students would think 2000 is claustrophobic. That's the size of a high school-a small one in southern states.

Davidson has such an eclectic student body and beautiful expansive campus I would daresay it feels larger than both Richmond and W&m

Basketball sure, but W&M and Richmond easily take the cake with football.

Disagree. It is 1/4 the size of W&M.

DS really liked W&M when we toured. But, the mold in the dorms and admittedly crappy food made it a hard pass for him. The students he met were terrific and honest about the school's shortcomings.

WM families are happy that the old dining provider was fired and the new one is doing a decent job. The bad dorms have started to see the wrecking ball, too. Several brand new dorms coming on for fall 2025. It won't look like the school I knew, but lots of needed improvements.

They seem to be pretty similar designs of older residence halls. I love university architecture, because the architects are usually forced to work with the campus they're building on and bring a modern version of the same style!

The dorms going up around old campus have been made to fit really well with old architecture. The new West Campus will look more transitional but very attractive.

OP here - in terms of northern comps, would Middlebury (for Richmond) and BU (W&m) be good peers ?

No, not at all. BU is a city school with no campus.

BC would be W&M's northern peer imo

This is offensive to BC, a high quality elite private college.
