Being president and running for re-election at the same time is hugely taxing. It’s go go go day in and day out. It takes its toll even on younger people, I’m sure it would have taken its toll on Trump a lot more were it not for Covid and his own general unpopularity at that point which both contributed to not traveling nearly as much as a regular election year.

DP. He did decline rapidly since January. In January his inner circle may have had the plausible hope that he could go through the elections, regardless if he is not able to fulfill the duties of president. Now his rapid decline has made it clear that the charade cannot continue.
