MCPS is no longer a desirable school district

And again: It doesn't make sense that you would have that attitude unless you were an MCPS educator/admin who was hellbent on defending the system.

No, you just desperately want allies to agree that you were wronged and you know who did it! Personal responsibility, what's that?

I don't need allies. But it is absolutely wild to have a so-called parent who believes every parent is lying about their experiences in MCPS as a default position. That is inherently anti-parent. Sort of like a man who believes all women who talk about sexual assault or harassment as liars by default would be correctly labeled as anti-woman. That's what you are: anti-parent.

DP but most of the so-called parents here, whining,
ranting about MCPS are trolls.

I'm sure this is the line that you sell your MCPS bosses to get them to get off your back about the things parents expose here that is going on in their respective MCPS schools, but you have no discernible or meaningful way of substantiating the claim you're making. Good luck continuing to sell that talking point around to your bosses in MCPS though. I'm sure it'll work since so much of MCPS leadership lacks competence and discernment.

Ok, private school recruiter you are starting early this admission cycle?!

Most privates have waitlists lol

So why do y'all spend so much time trolling here?

DP. It's true. Since the school closures, private school enrollment has shot way up.

We are tired of you messing with our college admissions and pulling the numbers down.

There's no way their kids are competitive. These are super lazy parents.

There's certainly a fair bit of trolling, but acknowledging the cause of the recent flight to private isn't part of it. For what it's worth, I don't agree with the others posters that are claiming that MCPS has gotten significantly worse.

No current staff will lose jobs and one student per class will be added.

I used to believe that until I learned that my one child, who got A's in maths in HS, had to retake math classes in college because she never really learned it in HS. What was really happening was/is, the classes were brought down to the lowest common denominators. They are running regular ed like they run special ed, LREs.

Also, kids who have strong GPAs that rely on a generous retake policy in MCPS are in for a rude awakening in college. MCPS is not setting our kids up for success with all of its lenient BS.
The retakes are ridiculous.

My child has no retake options in mcps hs. Maybe this is class dependent. Or at least I know they did not this year in higher level courses.

That's not true. You sure need to get yourself a hobby. I realize that obsession is part of your disorder but what if you had two? That way you could let the parents speak and you keep your comments as public statements for the board?

I also disagree that MCPS has gotten significantly worse (academically). It’s been awful for years, but it’s shortcomings were masked by parents who supplemented and remediated (at home or through a booming tutoring industry) and by individual teachers who subversively taught actual content because they knew the kids needed it. While MCPS has always had some amazing opportunities (magnets, FL immersion, etc.), many kids reliant on MCPS preparation would not have been able to take advantage of those opportunities.

When my kids started, Weast was still in charge and they were ahead of Curriculum 2.0, using a previous MCPS curriculum that was even worse. Since then, the MCPS proprietary curriculum has been proven a failure and they’ve been forced to adopt commercial curriculums. Now, parents can access the curriculum and we can analyze the success rates (or lack thereof in other districts) rather than using our kids as guinea pigs. Most importantly, it seems like they’ve finally decided to teach phonics explicitly. This one change is, by itself, a massive leap forward.

As for the discipline problems I’ve been hearing about with classroom evacuations and locked bathrooms, things have gotten a lot worse. Those things were unheard of back then. One of my kids had a truly hellacious experience with bullies (including death threats in the third grade, formation of an “I hate “Larla” club” that targeted anyone who associated with DD, and physical assaults on the playground). Other parents were calling me to say that their kids were traumatized by what they saw going on, but at least my daughter felt safe in the classroom. Kids today are apparently denied even that. How can we expect our kids to learn anything if they don’t feel safe and their instructional time is disrupted by violence and evacuations?

I guess MCPS can't please everyone.
