I really like this dress but wonder if it only looks good with high heels like the model is wearing. What other shoes would you wear with this? I’m 5’6”, 49.

I'm the same height and age as you, and I ordered this in a 10. It's...a lot of fabric on me. It almost has a bustle in the back due to the cinching in the waistband (my butt is pretty normal sized - maybe you need a flat butt to pull this off). I really want to keep it, but I kind of feel like it looks ridiculous on someone my height and weight. I haven't sent it back yet, because I really want it to work, but I think it's destined for a return.

The key to this dress is to order down. Depending on the cut of a dress I am normally an 8 or 10. I ordered this in a 6 online so was just guessing from the reviews. Some of the reviewers said it made a big difference in finding the right size to go into the store and try, particularly if they were bustier. Had I gone to the store, I would also have tried on a 4

Thank you to the Boden posters! It took a couple of tries and some returns, but I am loving the Vanessa dress and think it will get plenty of use. Bonus points for petite lengths!

I am 52, and this looks good on me. I had to hem it, though

I got the somerset dress based on a recommendation from here (https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/the-somerset-maxi-dress2?category=dresses-maxi-midi&color=012&type=STANDARD&quantity=1) and I was obsessed enough to get another in a different print. I have been showered with compliments so far every time I’ve worn it. I also just got the Katerina dress and am about to go for a second in another color (https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/the-katerina-button-front-dress5?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=012&searchparams=q%3Dkaterina&type=STANDARD&quantity=1). I have been ignoring Anthropologie all these years and now I don’t know why!

Only complaint is the weird way they model the maxi dresses - every one seems to feature one pic of the model pulling the dress up to show her leg. Lmao.

where do you live that you are showered with compliments for wearing the Somerset dress? I feel like everyone knows that dress, owns that dress and is bored of that dress. I don't mean to come off as snarky but I'm not sure it's generated a compliment in my circle for 2 years. I feel like I can't even wear it as it's so overdone. (I wish i could).

This is extremely harsh but I will admit that today I was out to lunch with my husband and woman walked by wearing the Somerset dress in a floral print and I immediately clocked it as *that* dress and made a note to myself that I won't buy it because it's too recognizable.

I do think it's a cute dress and checks a ton of boxes for me (covered up enough for easy sun protection, lightweight and comfy in super hot and humid weather, cute neckline, fun prints) but I just don't like wearing something that everyone has. That's not a knock on people who have it and wear it, just an acknowledgement that it's become ubiquitous at this point and therefore I'm mentally moving on. If it were a less recognizable style (maybe a sportier style without the tiers and the puff sleeves) I don't think this would happen. But it has too many very recognizable details.

I’ve never seen it, and might get it. I have 2 Jcrew jackets that I see people wearing all the time. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I'm not going to lie, I could give a good gosh darn if someone recognizes what specific dress I'm wearing. Are we all never supposed to wear an article of clothing, accessory, or shoe that other people can recognize?m I wore my somerset earlier this week and received multiple compliments from people under the age of 25 while I was just going about my business. Also, I like it and it's very comfortable.

Terrible dress season. I just ordered three from Sezane and returned all. Vanity sizing (all too big, I’m a size 4 and ordered smalls), plus cheap unlined material.
