I'm excited she has experience teaching in DCPS and an early childhood background. How many years did Dr. B teach before becoming an administrator? |
For what it’s worth, I can’t remember how many years she taught, but I think it was middle school and/or high school no elementary level experience. |
Honestly, I think ECE experience is a great thing to have — a lot of people don’t understand how pivotal and difficult those early years are; many principals get it wrong with ECE because of lack of understanding and a lack of experience in that area. That leads to more work needing to be done in the upper grades. |
boy tough crowd..for a thankless job. send your kid to private or get over it. |
I think her 191k salary and up to 40k bonus is enough thanks. |
She's been an administrator for the last four years at Hyde-Addison. What is the fear exactly? And by "hands on", do you mean overbearing? |
It would be in best interest of our community to welcome Katie Prall with open arms. I've heard nothing but good things. |
I am a Hyde Addison parent, and I wish that Katie was still with us. She has so much initiative and ambition for the school. For example, she organized a school play for the kids last year, talk about going above and beyond your job description.
If we lived closer to Lafayette, I would transfer my kids over there. |
Current Lafayette parent of 2 kiddos here--we could not be more thrilled to welcome Principal Prall. In the short time that she's been involved with Lafayette, she has shown such care and thoughtfulness. When she held a morning hello in the spring, she spoke directly to and connected with each and every kid waiting. She seems like just what the Dr ordered for Lafayette--a competent, organized leader who believes in a joyful and warm school. I am so hopeful that she'll help rebuild and retain the staff!
And FWIW, 90% of Lafayette families we've met are normal and lovely. The community is wonderful. |
The backhanded shots at the former principal combined with the desperate (and profoundly untrue) claim that not all Lafayette parents are loons is the perfect storm. |
Right but people who have barely taught make terrible supervisors for people who are career teachers. They can't advise them or instruct them or give them helpful criticism. |
Are you really saying that 100% of the 1000+ parents at Lafayette are "loons"? |
Now that the school year is under way, I would love to hear how things are going with the new principal. She sounds awesome!! |
So far so good from my perspective as a somewhat disengaged parent. Back to school night had good vibes, communication is good, clubs are being revitalized, the one newly hired teacher my kid has is awesome. I certainly can’t speak to the day to day, but my kids are happy! |
A teacher with whom we have a close relationship said that the teaching staff is SO much happier this year. They added that the mood in across the entire school is much better and lighter. From a parent/student perspective, things are seemingly going well! But we've never had much (any?) interaction with the admin staff. |
