If you look at him he looks fine but he is disabled, he can’t do his job.

There’s no grey area, he can’t do his job. No one should be questioning him.

But long Covid is not testable and it is diagnosed on symptoms. People with long Covid typically are unable to play sports or exercise. It mostly affects cardiovascular and respiratory so to fly commercially is not recommended. Especially internationally. It can be tiring to travel when you’re healthy and if you have something like long Covid I can’t imagine even wanting to travel that far.

If she’s at a club and is as status conscious as so many women here she will not be playing badly.

As usual, ignorant people on this thread are conflating "disability" with "motor disability" and fixating on tennis and travel as proof this person is well enough to sit and focus for long periods of time in front of a computer. They don't see it's an entirely different set of activities. The complete opposite, in fact.

There are MANY other types of disabilities apart from the motor-based ones. Clearly, this person cannot sit and focus. She may have diminished cognitive abilities, executive function and processing speed, and these would show up at her work well before it would impact a recreational sport or sightseeing tours.

It's not hard to understand, but the point of the jealous people isn't to understand. It's just to be jealous. I bet you'd rather have the full use of your brain and have paid work rather than be dependent on your spouse and be fuzzy-brained for ever.

True there are many symptoms that would affect work like brain fog, fatigue, pain, but the lungs and heart symptoms are most debilitating.

The typical person affected is a woman in middle age with low income. Hopefully she didn’t get special treatment because she knew someone. Public employees and all.

And when someone brings out the “you’re just jealous!” they have nothing of value to say.

+1. And, like OPs neighbor, it mysteriously seems to only afflict UMC white women.

A patient with long Covid is typically a women who is low income. If it didn’t affect the lungs and heart I would say there’s room for doubt but it’s not just fatigue and joint pain.

How much can she possibly be making? Isn’t it like $800/mo?

Oh please. He can sit at a desk and do paperwork instead of killing people. He should have been promoted!

This is what I was thinking. I know a couple people with long covid. The one I'm closest to could definitely play tennis on her best days, but her worst days are very hard. What is keeping her from working her job is the unpredictability of brain fog and energy levels. When I see her out and about I am so happy that she is having a good day.

Also disability is not full pay, so she's not only dealing with scary but mostly invisible symptoms, but having to adjust her lifestyle. She has no idea if her mind will fully recover or she's looking at diminishing abilities and diminishing prospects for healthy years with her kids. She is torn between trying to take vacations now because she's okay enough and wants to make memories with her kids while it could be her last chance to mostly just laying low and resting in hopes that maybe next month will be better instead of worse and she'll save a little more money.

Disability does not pay much. How do you know she gets disability?

It may have impacted both, but OP is assuming it didn’t.

For the record, you don't need to be hospitalized for COVID to develop long Covid. I had a very mild case of Covid a few years ago but post-infection dealt with some scary health issues that cropped up right after. Before then I was ridiculously healthy and fit but spent a year + clawing my way back to "normal."

OP, I wish I could slap you with every single one of my numerous disabilities and terminal illness. Also, may you have every one of my deplorable doctors who put me in this avoidable state making it more hopeless and painful.

All the best to you, OP.

I know one woman with long covid. She can barely stand up. Her life is absolutely ruined. She's considering MAID.
