Just more proof that you have lost it. I am the poster who said Haverford has a better academic reputation and my kid is not at any slac. Unlike you, offering a neutral opinion.

She wants a small school w/top academics and a strong student experience in a warmer climate that is near "stuff" and Davidson checks those boxes. She said Davidson felt far friendlier and welcoming to students of color than the New England campuses she visited. It did not feel Southern to her. Most of the fly-in students were not from the South. There are a few frats for guys and eating houses for women but at least the eating houses are self selected with no rush process. And parties are open to the entire campus. She calls it Greek-lite.

She found the Davidson campus quite pretty and felt large for 2000 students. It's proximity to Charlotte is a big plus. She learned that most students do take advantage of the city for concerts, sporting events and internships. Plus she adored Davidson's Lake Campus on Lake Norman that is quite the student hangout on those warm Carolina days. If she gets in and we get a good aid package, she will likely be a Wildcat next fall.

Did your DD get in?! We just did a tour of Davidson and DC LOVED it. Checked all the boxes and will likely be applying ED.

Sadly, waitlisted. She's committed to Hamilton currently but would jump if she somehow got accepted off Davidson's waitlist.

Did she apply RD? What are her stats?

NP here. I don’t get the vitriol of the Haverford poster. There is a strong bias that Mid-Atlantic and NE schools have a lock on quality higher education. When top Southern schools are mentioned, there’s always a quick put down or unfavorable comparison. Why can’t we acknowledge that there are excellent schools across America?

Funny, I was that poster and my kid attends a private school in the south. I have no bias against southern schools, I just think Haverford has a better academic reputation than Davidson, which is hardly “vitriol.” You can have whatever opinion you choose.

She applied regular decision. We would have applied early if we knew we'd get a financial aid package that matched their online estimate. In retrospect, I wish we took the chance and applied ED since Davidson was clearly her first choice and Hamilton's aid package is doable but not great.

Our student applied ED to Davidson, got accepted, and the financial aid package was slightly more than the calculator. All grant aid.

No, Dickinson.

My dd has friends there and reports a pretty significant athlete/non athlete social divide.

My non-athletic son is currently at Davidson and this may be true to a certain extent though likely less so than other similarly sized colleges like Amherst and Williams. Since Davidson is D1 w/only 2000 students, there are fewer teams and fewer athletes on campus--roughly 25% of students vs. near 40% at Amherst and Williams. He personally doesn't feel the divide. Several of his friends are athletes (track, swim and baseball) but then again he's a pretty social kid and he's in a major Econ that is popular among athletes.

He has zero interest in most other SLACs---would not be caught dead at Haverford (aunt went there). Other interests are Richmond, WF, UVA (plus safeties).

Haverford is rife with anti-Semitism, Davidson is not. If you're Jewish, no question Davidson is the best choice.
