How does this end?

During the school year? Or before the contract year?

Every Monday was a 2 hr early release. Period.

Predictable.
No random teacher work days or other wonky early dismissals.

A compromise that might work given the situation

Really? Getting out early on Monday? That’s it? You know they would end up scheduling faculty meetings and crappy PD units then.

Yes that was the point of early release Mondays previously, right? Not about "getting out early" but to do all the faculty meetings and crappy PD units that required so much time off from student instruction this fall.

Anecdata, but Covid initiated an immediate switch to private schools and the majority of students were older elementary through middle school and haven’t and won’t return to FCPS.

So, there’s that. Also these are coveted school pyramids so parents strategically moved for the FCPS ES.

This is incorrect. Some did go to private schools but if you think every student who hasn’t returned to FCPS is at a private school now, you have a fundamental ignorance of both FCPS demographics and private school enrollment.

My school lost 2 SPED IAs and a teacher since October.

I bet 75% of those resignations were in Special Education. It's bad.

They need to ask special ed teachers what they need to stay in the job. I know that some of it would be doable, but in many cases administrators need to make changes. One example would be to excuse me from recess duty so I could use that time for paperwork. There are enough gen ed teachers at recess to provide supervision. Another would be to restructure elementary schools to have a literacy lab, where a teacher or two had groups all day, allowing the other special ed teachers to push into gen ed. This allows kids who need intensive reading programs to get that, and I can concentrate on the others. I’m spread too thin by trying to cover every kid in my grade level at the same time.

Are you at recess for a particular student or just as general coverage? I’ve never known our special ed teachers to have recess duty unless they were supporting a student and that usually is covered by an IA.

I think the kids even need this-the days are too long.

Not with a bang but a whimper.

Was really looking forward to the “caring culture” review from the school board next week and listening to how they justify why they pay teachers and administrators less $ and worse benefits (leave, healthcare) than surrounding counties. Now I see on BoardsDocs it is “cancelled” in order to have a “closed session”. What gives? The board is infuriating.

My high schooler is DRAINED by the end of the day. And there is a lot of wasted time in the day: switching classes, long lunches, advisory period, down time in electives, pep rallies and assemblies. Most of which DC (and we) could do with out if DC could get out a bit earlier (or start later).

Can people have access to closed session minutes?
