It will always be national.
My mom took me to swensen’s on the last day of school for ice cream. |
+1 Here’s another one: partying with kids at nice houses in dc with the secret service outside (who kindly tell you to leave before the cops show up to break up the fun). |
Just for fun, I sometimes tell my sister I just ran errands at Peoples or bought a dress at Woodies…mostly to make her laugh. |

You got trashed as heck at Fox and Hounds.
You partied at the Tombs. You went to Weenie Beenie late night. |
My grandparents weren’t “permitted” in the Green Book (the social one) at first because they were divorced, but at some point the rules changed and my family was in it for several decades before moving away in the 1990s. I’m the only member of my family actually born in DC. |
THIS. If you call it anything else, you must be from Pittsburgh or Omaha. |
This. Where did you family live before the riots, PP? |
Rum Buns at Hogate’s! Thanks for the memory. That used to be our “fancy” brunch place. I don’t think it was actually that great, but we didn’t know better. |
I don’t know if New Yorkers are “possessive, but they’ll sure tell you every chance they can that they’re from NY. We get it, the pizza sucks, can’t find a good bagel, nobody gets my NYC humor, everything is better in the city….but here you are. |
Except for Freshfields, I used to do all of my shopping in the suburbs. |
God, I miss Swensen’s. Their Swiss Orange Chip ice cream was the best. Also miss Farrell’s even though I never ordered one of those ice cream monstrosities for myself. Just liked looking at them on the menu. |
Yes-! Fun times. I worked on the top floor of Garfinckels. |
OMG My first job was at Woodies, Wheaton Plaza! And my sister and I still joke about running to People's
|
And The Greaseman on DC101! |
| Why hasn’t someone resurrected Swensons or Farrells? |
