VT better than UVA in hard sciences is certainly true for grad school. In my field of mechanical engineering/engineering mechanics, it's easier to get into UVA than VT and we have had a lot of students that have UVA as second choice. |
Serious question: WTF is your problem? I *never* said all the UVA grads are jerks. You're taking what someone else said and attributing it to others. (You're also taking this waaaay too seriously, but that's a topic for another day.) I'm not about to go research who said what jerk comments to whom. I've also been on this forum for a long time - almost two decades, in fact - and I can say with certainty that there are JUST AS MANY ahole UVA parents/students/alums tooting UVA's horn and trashing their rival schools as there are people trashing UVA. And FYI, you have now outed yourself as one of those ahole UVA boosters. |
DP. Absolutely. My kid and all his friends, for instance. None had any desire to go to UVA so didn't bother applying. And now that the PP keeps blathering on, I'm very glad they chose other schools. |
DP but I think you are the one who has the problem and is obsessed. |
THere is no similar option in the UC system. There are three polytech in the Cal State system but that is a huge drop from the University of California system. For those of you that don't understand, California is unique in that it has three levels of "affordable" public institutions of higher learning - the U.C. system (UCLA, CAl, etc.), the Cal State system (often starter as giant commuter schools like Cal State Fullerton that evolve into huge universities - good but not on the U.C. level) and the large community college system which provides for generous transfer options at the end of the AA degree providing you meet certain criteria. Cal Tech is private. |
Right, “DP.” |
Physics? Chemistry? Neuroscience? I don't buy into blanket statements. |
As a scientist looking at the UVA faculty vs VT faculty I would say UVA wins hands down in all the science areas I know. Engineering is the only area I would say there are folks who might go to VT over UVA, just because of the breadth of options and classes. |
This is absolutely true. Been on this board for hmm 3 years now? No real UVA booster would actually call other kids in other schools “jerks”. That said, ALOT of people, including teens, DO come into this board just for the sole purpose of rabble rousing and starting these UVA vs… fights. The fact that some people actually decide not to apply there because if that is just a shame and ill informed. There are people who continually come on here to say that UVA is not diverse and all northern VA “high school 2.0”, and that just doesn’t describe the school today at all. I have two kids there. The detractors that say these things, don’t. |
The California system has multiple schools, of differing levels of admission difficulty, that offer strong options in the areas where VT is strong. |
I think UVA boosters do tend to put other schools down on this board. That doesn't condone those who put UVA down. |
NP- I don't have a dog in this fight but I see the opposite. There may be a very small minority that do this but the UVA bashing is unparalleled and off the charts. |
I agree, you really don’t see uva peeps putting down other schools except to stay that if you’re in state, there is really no better value out there. My kids go to UVA, and I think it’s a great school but if someone decides to go to tech, good for them. I really don’t care where someone else goes but when you start calling kids who go to UVA names, I’m gonna react. |
I've seen plenty of put downs - both ways. |
DP. This has got to be a troll post. Surely you don’t think people are taking you seriously? “Might” go to VT over UVA? VT is the top choice for many students, for a multitude of reasons. |
