There is no question about it. Discrimination and targeting of immigrants, people of color and minorities are prevailing in many communities in MoCo.
We have a long way to go. My only issue is we must also focus and promote academic excellence along with the social equity. We cannot ignore one for other.

How exactly is MCPS targeting and discriminating against minorities. We have tons of programs just for them that whites are not allowed.

Have you been to a W? There's all kinds of crazy incidents at those schools. Just search the board.

This is correct. For example, just 2 months ago three Whitman students murdered a man in the stairwell at the Bethesda Trader Joe’s in a planned marijuana robbery. Oh wait. That’s not the example you were looking for?

Does anyone know which boards and which crazy incidents? I know if issues at some of the non-W schools, but someone will need to clarify what W incidents are occurring?

There were dozens of these incidents at the W's documented here but the ones I remember reading were the kids running in blackface and handing out the n*word cards.

Yes. And don’t forget the murder. That’s kid if a big deal.

A murder in a W?

A murder by Whitman students.

Well.. technically, they were Whitman students.

Authorities say all three teens are residents of the Greentree Adolescent Program – part of the National Center for Children and Families (NCCF) shelter on Greentree Road. The organization’s adolescent program serves “traumatized, victimized and poorly socialized adolescent males to be productive members of society,” according to the website. The website says Whitman students are among those who live in the shelter.

If MCPS was serious about discrimination they could check their inbox. Maybe the DoE OCR investigations? Or the CFP's? Lawsuits?

Mark my words, this seems more like top-cover for some type of personal agenda so that MCPS can point and say "see, this is why I'm doing this, not my fault, blame the parents!"

OMG! That's awful! MCPS is the Worst!

Well, not really. Seems fine.

They had to pay for that? Anyone could think up 9 options for gender and ask if school is racist.
What did they pay for?

With all the problems at the W's in recent years like the n*word cards and blackface incident, this is long overdue.

But none of that was done by whites.

Please, there were all done by whites except one.

There have been numerous cases of micro agressions and micro invalidations towards teachers who are unrepresented minorities. Students see and hear these things from the adults in the building, then repeat the same without necessarily being fully aware of the severity of their action.

That's not true.

+1 The audit is a waste when Central Office supports discrimination in our schools. Magnets discriminate against Asian candidates. LGTBQ students face bullying by students. Students with disabilities were denied FAPE during online learning and have not received services to catch up.

Looking at the OCR filings, MCPS has a problem with retaliation when discrimination is reported. There’s a culture of fighting people who come forward versus fixing what is broken. Many in Central Office are to blame for this toxic culture in the school system.
