Maybe in the past or in other circumstances but there was no chance here. By your standard neither Princeton nor MIT is elite since they weren’t able to get rid of Sabatini and Katz quietly. 🙄 |

All they care about is stoking their grievances.
But at least PP who thinks they should have engineered a way for him to leave will be happy. |
| I didn't know who this guy is until reading his op-ed in the WSJ today, and his tweet was stupid. That said, the worst part about this whole story is the black eye on Georgetown for not strongly advocating for free speech for their faculty. If this had happened at a state school like UMD, it would have riled up some students and faculty but the idea of taking any kind of administrative action would have immediately been quashed as the government cannot infringe upon free speech. Most liberal schools have signed onto the Chicago statement on freedom of speech. It is scary when institutions charged with generating knowledge and ideas "investigate" people for politically incorrect statements |
| The guy sounds like a wealthy version of most of my high school class back in Pennsylvania. Reminds that I'm glad that I never moved back after school. Also glad that I never chose the path into academia. |
This. We are truly in Mao's cultural revolution. |
Nope. So transparent. |
| Ilya is 100% a racist. This is obvious to anyone who knows him. |
What a ridiculous statement about a guy who nothing happened to. Tell me you are historically ignorant without telling me…. |
PP here and actually yes, I’m quite impressed with the outcome and GULC has definitely redeemed themselves as an elite institution. They masterfully dealt with this troll and engineered the best possible outcome for the school. So yeah, Georgetown Law is elite again because this is how elite institutions get it done. |
“This! We should be able to use our platform to share our racist opinions free of consequences! Everyone knows the Biden Administration chose a “lesser candidate” just because she’s black! What’s that you say? She (KBJ) went to Harvard Law/an Ivy League law school (unlike ACB), was a Supreme Court clerk (unlike Alito and Sotomayer), and federal appeals judge (unlike Kagan). No, I didn’t object to ACB even though KBJ has more judicial experience. Why? Umm. Just because..” |
| Isn't hate speech excluded from the freedom of speech? |
First, it wasn't hate speech. Second, hate speech is protected speech. What country do you live in?! |
