WTF???? And it’s Dr. McKnight. God, DCUM makes me lose brain cells sometimes. Is this an adult forum or a first grade classroom - oh wait, first graders are even more mature.

She doesn’t have an M.D. or PhD.

True!!

FALSE - Dr. McKnight has a PhD from University of Maryland College Park.

Before you try to fact check someone else, you should make sure you get your own facts straight. She does not have a PhD.

She does have a doctoral degree. There is no rule that only MDs and PhDs get referred to as "Dr." That's a made up thing by the right wing to justify you misogyny.

Why should I call her by her title? Her name is Monifa and I can call her whatever the hell I want. I am actually being polite here...there are other words I would like to use right now. MCPS is screwed under her lack of leadership.

People would take you more seriously if you used the proper title. It is actually a worrying situation. The biggest Covid surge we've seen and all the administrators are on leave. And they knew this was coming when they demanded it.

But you sound like a moron.

There are no "rules" on this, period.

If you've gone to a physical therapist in the last few years, they probably had a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Did you call them "Doctor"? The same applies to occupational therapists with a Doctorate in Occupational Therapy.

Obviously, there's no rule that says you can't, but I've never seen that done

There is a rule of basic courtesy that you call people by the titles they ask you to use, especially in educational settings. You wanna ignore basic courtesy, go ahead. It makes you seem rude and classless, and therefore pepe don't care what you have to say.

Has Acting Superintendent McKnight asked people to address her as Doctor? That’s different from using it herself.

Although, I disagree that is even basic courtesy. You didn’t answer my question from the previous post. If your Physical Therapist used the title “Dr.” and asked you to use it too, would you think that was appropriate? Or would you think that is a misuse of the term?

Her bio says "Dr. McKnight". You don't assume you can refer to the head of a large organization by their first name. Well, you do, because you are a rude person. I thought this wod be obvious, but let me spell it out for you: I refer to anyone with a doctorate as Dr. unless they ask me not to or it is a casual situation (or I am not aware of their educational background)

I'm not the person you're arguing with, but let me guess, you work for MCPS, probably CO, right?

I'm glad the biggest issue MCPS is facing is whether to call someone with a Doctorate in Education a "Dr." (versus actually discussing covid response).

No, I don't work for MCPS Central Office. I think it's absurd they're closed right now, and that they demanded this closure knowing full well that omicron was coming.

This is an anonymous message board where people discuss a variety of topics. Some people seem determined to call the MCPS superintendent by her first name, for some reason. I think that's inappropriate. If you think my opinion on this topic is inappropriate, report me to Jeff.

A lawyer has a JD (Juris Doctor) but we refer to them as "Esquire".

How is this relevant to the discussion of how to refer to a person with a doctorate in education, who is referred to by others as Dr.?

I'd love to see a chart of how many mentions on DCUM there are of "Josh" (Starr) or "Jack" (Smith), versus "Monifa".

MCPS central office is closed now??!! Who is making the decision to go virtual or not??

That is an incredibly good question. Maybe they thought if nobody was there to answer the phones they would finally manage to make decisions based on policy instead of just listening to the whiniest teachers and parents? This could be a good thing.

The changes include:

• Making Jan. 12, March 24 and May 18 half days for students, to allow teachers and other staff members time for professional development and planning.

• Adding “systemwide closures” on Dec. 23, Dec. 27-30, and April 13-14. These days were already noninstructional days for students.

• Adding a systemwide closure on June 20 in observance of Juneteenth, now a federally recognized holiday.
