Share Your Top 5 Go-To Dinners

Anonymous
Although I've said it a million times, I really want to get into the habit of creating a meal plan for dinners each week. I hate trying to come up with "what's for dinner?" at 6pm each night. With that in mind, I'd love to hear your top 5 dinner meals. I have a 3 yr old fyi. Here are mine (although we're sooo bored of them):

Spaghetti, carrot sticks, muffins (with veggies snuck in)
Scrambled eggs, veggie sausage, english muffin, applesauce
Lemon chicken, rice, steamed veggies
Grilled chicken, corn on the cob, quinoa salad
Ok, guess I only have 4 go-to meals!

Thanks!

I swear I am not trying to police this forum, but this topic has gotten a lot of attention in the "Food" forum. You might get lots of great ideas there! (And the foodies are a bit kinder and more helpful in that little web neighborhood.)

Easy one:

1. chicken with arugula and potatoes

http://www.pbs.org/everydayfood/recipes/roasted_chicken_potatoes.html

2. Black bean burritos (rinsed back beans, green peppers, onions, mild salsa, cheese), baked at 350 for about 25 minutes.

3. Grilled chicken, wild rice, salad (foreman grill)

4. Crab cakes, steamed cauliflower and cheese, salad

5. Spinach tortellini and pesto, steamed broccoli

6. Summer time: a cold pasta salad with crisp sliced peppers and cold spicy marinara sauce. Yum.

tacos, in the summer grilled pizza, in the winter trader joe's pizza dough baked w/ toppings, lasagna (can make 2 small dishes and freeze one uncooked,) homemade chicken pot pie w/ leftover chicken, chicken waldorf salad from marthastewart.com, in the winter i like to throw a roast in the crock pot w/ some veg, or beef stew in the crock pot. hmm, i really like cooking a lot better in the winter! in the summer it's a lot of fresh bread, melon, corn on the cob etc.

- pasta/tortellini with jarred sauce and frozen broccoli and frozen meatballs
- quiche, fruit salad, and (regular) salad - I like this one b/c you can have the leftover quiche and fruit salad for bfast
- Roasted chicken thighs with thyme and potatoes and squash/seasonal veggie in the pan roasted with it
- Sliced steak sauteed with white beans and halved grape tomatoes with arugula salad- a nonspicy version of this (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Spice-Rubbed-Steak-with-White-Beans-and-Cherry-Tomatoes-357350)

Some are quicker then others and there's more then 5, but here they are:

Pasta of all varieties (with sauce and Parmesan, cheese/milk, or pesto and chicken or some other variation). We also sometimes do a garlic pasta (garlic and olive oil in a pan, toss in some shredded carrots and veggies then stir in pasta. Top with Parmesan. sometimes with chicken as well).

Grilled cheese (of all varieties) with veggies or fruit on the side. Sometimes we make the grilled cheese with onion and tomato on it.

Quesadillas (with cheese, cheese and salsa, or some other variety). Usually served avocado, carrot sticks, or some other cold veggie or fruit.

Bagel pizzas (sometimes as "make your own") also with cold veggies or fruit.

Chicken and rice (cubed chicken with cream of mushroom baked in the oven then served over rice). Usually served with corn or broccoli.

Once in a while we do chicken tenders with rice or potatoes, or with pasta as a quick and easy chicken Parmesan.

More intensive meals - salmon, homemade meatballs, baked mac and cheese, spring rolls, etc.

let's see:

Trader Joe's chicken chile burgers(yummy! ), with steamed veg and a fruit

grilled chicken ( kids love chicken wingy's ), with rice and cheese, w/ black beans and tomatos. makes a good salad starter the next day - mix up corn w/ the black beans, tomatoes and throw on a salad with the chicken and some ranch.

quesadillas - leftover chicken, cheese, beans, avocado and some salsa

frozen raviolis with parm and butter or red sauce or pesto, garlic bread and veggies and fruit

scrambled eggs w/ sausage, toast and fruit is fun. the kids love breakfast for dinner.

I always cut up a bunch of fruit every few days and then it is easy to dish out with meals.
