| What do you use to mop your wood floors. I was told that water and vinegar is best vs. all the products out there designed for wood floors. Is that true? How much vinegar do you use? |
| Well, depends what you mean by best. The people that are all green and anti chemical will tell you one thing, the hard-wood restoration people will tell you another. Water and vinegar will work. We use murphy's oil soap. |
| I use murphy's oil soap too, and think it does a nice job. |
| I use vinegar and water. I also have a steamer and it works beautifully. |
| love my steam mop! |
| I use about a cup of vinegar (I eyeball it) in a bucket of water with a drop of Dawn. My 18-month-old spends a lot of time on the floor so I don't want to do anything with chemicals or artifical fragrance. It works pretty well although my house kind of smells like a salad sometimes. |
| Bona wood cleaners work amazingly-- they sell a 'swiffer-type' mop. If you have more expensive wood floors, this might be worth it.... |
|
Bona! Love that stuff.
|
Me too! |
| Murphy's Oil Soap works well and is safe and environmentally friendly (it's on the EPA's green list). |
| this topic has been discussed before in Off Topic. With today's materials, there is no need to use 'products' on a floor unless you're trying to clean up a particular mess. If you're using a sponge/wring mop, water, vinegar and a drop of liquid dish soap works very well. You can also use a dust mop sprayed with a little furniture polish in between moppings in order to pick up the dust. Never spray the furniture polish directly on the floor as it will make it very slippery. I use a cloth diaper pinned over the dust mop. When I'm finished, I just toss it in the wash. I also swear by my steam mop (I have a Bissel). You don't have to use anything but water in it and as long as you don't saturate the pad and clean it frequently, you'll have amazing floors. Works on tile, too. |
| For those who use vinegar for mopping the wood floors, how much vinegar do you put in a bucket of water? |
| Anything but vinegar seems to make our wood floors slippery. |
| I use Bona but am very interested in the steam mop. Any particular models? |
|
I've got the Shark Pocket Mop. For the price, it isn't bad. My one big tip is to get extra covers. I use at least 2 covers when I clean my kitchen - changing them when they get very dirty.
I was pretty nervous about using a steam mop on a wood floor until I saw how little water it actually uses. |
