Mopping Wood Floors

17:59 here. I researched models extensively and The Shark and Bissell seemed to be fairly equal. I agree with the PP to buy extra pads. They are the key to streak free floors - at least until you get all the other cleaning products off the wood. Once the other products are off the floor, you get streak free, clean floors by vacuuming the floors first, waiting until the water is hot before mopping, don't keep the steam trigger pressed the entire time (or your pad will become saturated too quickly and your floors will be wet, wet, wet and streak) and change the pad frequently to avoid just moving the dust around. I love that steam mop! I got my last one on Black Friday at Target for $49.99!

Damn...my steam mop never seems to get anything up off the floors. If there is a stain or spill I usually end up having to get down and get it up with a rag after mopping. What am I doing wrong.

17:59 again. Maybe your expectations are too high? I don't use the steam mop to clean up spills and stuff. It's not a wring or a sponge mop that has the excess capacity. I think of it more like I do my cook top cleaner - the one that leaves it all glossy looking. You're supposed to get all the dirt and gunk up before you use it. It's really only for getting up light dust and leaving the floors nice looking. For spills and stuff, I use a rag to clean up. I do find the steam mop very effective on dried gunk (like milk, lollipop residue and stickers). I just clean everything else before going over those spots and then went it comes up, I change the pad and go over it again.
