lax culture from an insider

Lacrosse families tend to come from affluent backgrounds (I know I am making a generalization) and generally leverage lacrosse to get their son into a school he could not have go into on his own. I can't imagine there are lacrosse families at IAC schools who are biting at the bit to get their son into Towson or High Point to play lacrosse.

If you look at SJC college lacrosse placement over the years, its BAD and is LIGHT YEARS behind what you would see at Prep or Landon and probably even Gonzaga.

SJC will need to improve its academic perception if it wants to get kids into Ivy League schools, NESCAC, and the Georgetown and the Notre Dame's of the world. Until the academic component is addressed, I think it will be play catch up to the IAC schools and Gonzaga for a long time.

Respectfully disagree. The boys at the schools you mention are getting into great schools not because of their SAT scores or GPAs, or overall academic reputation of the schools, but because of their numbers on the field. If St Johns builds a lacrosse powerhouse, the college offers will come.

The Ivy League uses its own Academic Index to allow schools to admit recruited athletes. The NESCAC borrows it for their own purposes.

The Academic Index looks at two things; SAT Score and Class Rank. Sorry, there's no weight given for the reputation of the high school.

The Academic Index profile of all athletes recruited in a year must match the profile of the total student body. So each school's is a little different.

I don't think Landon or Bullis are really impacted by St. Johns Lacrosse.

I also don't think Landon or Bullis have many applicants who are also considering SJC. (maybe a few football recruits or basketball player)

Prep and Gonzaga are probably keeping a watchful eye on the SJC lacrosse situation as there is a several applicants who consider all 3.

As someone who knows this area very well, SJC even to this day, is still known as the safety school to Gonzaga and Georgetown Prep. SJC has never had a stellar academic reputation no matter how much money Plank pours into the school.

Different poster. But where are you going with this? That the prior poster is so incredulous that a grown man, let alone one who purportedly holds himself out to be a builder of character and integrity, gets into a bar fight. So yeah, really?!

Giblin is a loathsome person but he can coach. It is likely he will make StJ a strong program within a short period. That wouldost likely impact Ginzaga the most, but probably Prep, Landon and Bullis as well, in that order.

Giblin was punched in a bar. He was the victim of an assault and not a participant in a fight. A fight would require Giblin to throw at least one punch. He did not.

Of course that doesn't suit the purposes of our poster who sees this as an easy --- and safe --- way to even an old score. He'd rather call it a "bar fight" to settle some old defeat inflicted on him or his by a Giblin coached team.

I thought he was let go as a result of whatever happened? If true, then the school saw him as something different than a "victim."

There are some reports that he was more involved than merely receiving a punch. If you have seen him treat players and officials during a game, that would not be hard to imagine.

You missed the April episode of keeping up with the Giblins.

I had two sons that played for him at Mater Dei and at Prep. I have never seen him mistreat a player over a 7 year period. I have watched him coach about 100 games.

Yell at them? Sure. That's his job.

The "reports" that he did more than receive a punch are untrue. I know two guys who were there with him that night and they both confirmed this.

Yelling at officials to do their job properly isn't a hanging offense.

His crimes appear to be that he won a lot of games leaving a lot of disappointed parents of opposing teams and had a booming voice.

PP:

There were tons of Prep parents happy to see him go.

I I am not a Giblin fan, but second that. He's a strong personality and a royal pain in the rear for school administrators when he wants his way, but that does not translate into harming a kid. I also couldn't care less about the boys at the bar stories. He's not popular with everyone, but he can sure coach lacrosse. STJ will be beating Prep and Landon in no time once he gets kids he wants in that program. An FYI for those of you without long history, Prep for years in the 1990s would get crushed by Landon. People said it would never happen, but Landon spent the next decade plus looking up at Prep. Gonzaga was the one getting crushed 6-7 years ago, and look at them now. Things change.

Yelling at officials to let off frustration or fain an edge is not coaching. It is boorish behavior.

I don't thibk landon ever spent even close to a decade looking up at Prep in lacrosse. Agree with most of your post though. Things change. Programs rise and fall.
