My accupuncturist has recommended that I use progesterone cream starting after ovulation each cycle.
I have a 10-day luteal phase and I need a little help keeping my progesterone levels up so I can conceive. Has anyone here used it or had success with it? Thoughts about it? |

| Reviving this thread to see if anyone used the cream successfully. Just had my second miscarriage and I suspect a short luteal phase. |

I was the poster from 2/2 looking for any success (or failure stories) about natural progesterone cream. I just wanted to share my story in case someone has a similar question in the future.
I started tracking my cycles and ovulation (through BBT) before trying to conceive DD1. I suspected a short luteal phase (9-10) days, so when trying for DD1 I used a natural progesterone cream 2x/day after ovulation. I can't remember how long I used it for. I forgot about the cream when TTC #2. I got pregnant and miscarried at 7 weeks, then got pregnant again two cycles later and miscarried at 8 weeks. I remembered that I had used the cream when pregnant with DD1, and started using it after ovulation on the next "trying" cycle and am now 8 weeks pregnant with DC2. I just got back from my first ultrasound and saw a strong heartbeat. I know I'm not out of the woods, but seeing the heartbeat is a lot farther than I got with the miscarriages. It may just be a coincidence, but if we go for #3, you can bet I'll be rubbing that cream on religiously. This time I have also been taking a prenatal (as before) and a B complex (for the first time). Good luck to all of you TTC! |
| Congrats on your current pregnancy! Keep us updated. I was prescribed progrsterone by my OB after my first miscarriage and am hoping it will help. I think my luteal phase is generally 11-12 days and I'm not sure if that's considered short. I don't have experience with the cream—what does your OB say and why didn't s/he prescribe it to you? Do you have any other fertility issues and/or what causes a short luteal phase? |
| 2/2 poster again. I went to an RE who said that they don't become concerned until a patient has had 3 miscarriages. He also seemed skeptical of my suggestion that progesterone would help, since he said there were no studies that indicated that progesterone supplements helped prevent miscarriage. He said that if I insisted, he would prescribe a progesterone supplement, but I got the cream on my own, and kept getting my levels checked and they have been looking good every time so we figured we'd stick with what seemed to be working. |
