I am Luis Fernandez - of Woodley suspension (in)famy

She was identified at birth (and it's so noted on her birth certificate) that she's a girl. There is no trans issue here.[i] Luis Fernandez conjured up an issue out of thin air. You have a grown man deciding that a 7-year old girl did not look enough like a girl, by examining her swim bottoms.

We don't need that from anyone, let alone a grown man.

I suggest that instead of examining swim suit bottoms, and picking fights with 7 year olds and their families, you focus on your own life, show some humility and grace to those you don't know, give others the benefit of the doubt, and move on, and preferably never again at Woodley Pool.

And this is what these trans vigilantes don’t understand. They are harming ALL girls when they do this sort of thing.

I hope every pool in the area knows his name and won’t let him and his family join. I’ll definitely be making our nearby pool aware of who he is in case he tries to join.

For once, a DCUM thread where we all agree.

Doesn't feel like this went according to plan...

But cheers to unity!

That article makes me so angry. I realize it's not a novel concept that the media manipulates and spins information to support a narrative but sheesh. This makes it sound like a meet marshal is empowered to enforce the rules. That's like saying an usher at a baseball game can call balls and strikes.
Also still waiting for the OP to acknowledge the fact that the child in question was, in fact, a female. Not that it matters. His behavior was reprehensible regardless. But his lack of response to that fact further demonstrates that this was a stunt to take a stand on an issue. At the expense of a child and a community organization.

I keep thinking about the fact that this was a 7 year-old girl. 7 year-olds still sleep with stuffed animals. I cannot imagine the psychic harm of knowing that this adult man decided she was insufficiently feminine, and seeing her accomplishment crossed out in a public space.

That poor baby.

Luis--get professional help. This reminds me of the writing of patients I treated in psychiatric settings. Detached from reality, hyper-focused on some perceived injustice and unsettling for anyone who reads it. I'm not being sarcastic or joking. You need help.

+1. It’s a sad commentary on our public culture that protecting girls in sports now means protecting girls in sports from men like Luis.

Agree. He’s insufferable by posting this in multiple places and creating websites to shame a child.

With six kids he should be volunteering at every meet.

I keep thinking of Luis’s six children. I can’t imagine what the home life must be like with such an explosive, obsessive parent. Safe places like swim team and friends houses are so critical for kids who live with parental mental illness and this action has probably taken those things away from them.

I remain naively hopeful the family (and child especially) remains unaware of this media campaign.

I hope the child is unaware and the parents are very aware, so they can get a restraining order against him and hopefully a bunch of money.

This perfectly encapsulates how toxic the right wing has become.

Abhorrent on every level.
