If this is the case, why not just admit all legacies? |
North Carolina is not a red state. New Hampshire is not a red state. Rice, Wash U, and Vanderbilt are legit. OK I retract. |
There was a time when they practically did. |
I think that would be good. ND would prefer it. |
NH is quite red. Its dems are red. |
Emory is a more popular school than WashU and Rice and just as elite... |
Huh? NC and NH are both red. WashU is gross. So is ND at this point. Vanderbilt, Rice? Meh. I guess some DBs like Duke. |
And I cynically think this is another work-around to decrease the number of Jews in the class. So many Ivy donors with legacy applicant kids are Jewish today. This became very apparent in all the pushback against pro-Hamas activism last year. Harvard is said to be aiming for no more than 2% Jewish, in line w American population. |
CA didn’t vote for this. They did vote to get rid of Aff Action, and they have been basically ignored. |
Who are the plaintiffs going to be in this lawsuit? I don’t think it will ever happen. |
| Is California now going to enact a law where someone can’t hire their family member for employment? Private schools that are privately funded shouldn’t be subject to laws prohibiting who they can enroll. |
Private universities do still receive a lot of taxpayer funded dollars. As a taxpayer I want my money to go somewhere with a more level playing field for good applicants to get in without competing with someone who just happened to have a family member go there. If an employer is receiving tax dollars to operate then I would not be opposed to hiring limitations to prevent taxpayer funded nepotism. If you want to hire family members then create a business model to fund it yourself. Your analogy fails on all counts. |
Yes that is true. Self identifying Jewish students make up 10-24% of undergraduate at Ivies. That is really high vs the population. Bill Ackman has said he want UPenn to be at 35%.
https://www.insidehighered.com/news/admissions/2023/05/08/jewish-student-enrollment-down-many-ivies Being Jewish really helps with admissions to Ivy League schools. I imagine legacy and regional preferences(New York and NE) play a part. Also removing presidents at Ivy League schools because they are not pro Israel shows which alumni have influence. |
Why do people think PA is next? Because its state legislature is nothing like California’s or Maryland’s. |
Yeah but is georgia a red state? |
