I am at Target but have heard horrible things. Most gifts will come from out of town (outside of DC, VA, MD).
Any suggestions? I also come from friends and family mindset that will just give me cash if I don't register. Which is ok but not what I want them to feel they should. |
I registered at BRU for the out of town people who wanted to physically go and purchase something. I also did Amazon for the out of town tech savvy ppl. I also registered at BBB and Great Beginnings. I told everyone about those and the out of towners who wanted to, bought from there and had it shipped to me. You have to pay close attention to what you get from where and return policies. I did not register at Target. I did get Target gift cards, which I was fine with b/c I had control of what what bought there. I think I remember their registry return policy being bad. |
Op here thanks. I am also looking for swag.. yes I wont take from friends and family but iwll totally register for a free gift from some company |
I registered on Amazon. Don't regret it at all. If people want to buy it from a brick and mortar, Amazon let's them check it off the list so you won't get duplicates. It's worked out great! |
Amazon is great, as it covers a variety of websites, prices are good (beat BRU most of the time, but not always), it tracks who buys what for thank yous, and if you sign up for amazon mom, your registry doubles easily as a final shopping list with free two-day shipping.
We also registered at BRU for those who like to go to a store, and there is something fun about taking the wand around the store and "shopping." It's a lot easier for small items too. |
Amazon and Dawn Price. |
BBB and Pottery Barn Kids...I wasn't a huge fan of BRU(found it overwhelming) or Target(for the return policy.) BBB had all of my essential/must have items, and Pottery Barn Kids had all of my fun, cute "nice to have items."
To be honest I registered at PBK b/c they give me the 10% completion discount ASAP and since I purchased most of the nursery items from there, we saved a lttle money...I don't fully expect friends/family to go crazy buying there. |
I've heard great things about diapers.com, though I've never ordered there myself. And, of course, they have much more than diapers! |
We went with Babies R Us and Pottery Barn Kids. Most people do not have a BBB near them (we are lucky to have 2 in this area -- it's a great store) and I've heard bad things about the Target return policy (even though a lot of people I know seem to register here). On the flip side, BRU doesn't seem to me to have the best product selection. I liked a lot of the patterns of certain baby items better that are sold at BBB, and I almost wish I had also set up an Amazon registry for a wider product selection, although I bet returns from there would also be difficult. And you get next to no service from the employees at BRU, when compared to BBB. Yet, we still went with Babies R Us, since it seems to be in every town and they ship a lot of products for free from the website. |
This is poster 15:16: For what it's worth, I would love to do Amazon...actually have an unpublished registry there...but I was concerned about my non tech savvy guests and the ease of returns. Also, for what it's worth, my Mom ordered our car seat from the Amazon registry and had quite a difficult time making the purchase...but I think its a great idea if your guests are computer savvy!
Also, totally agree, there are not BBB everywhere, so that is hard...but I took the chance on them since I agree with poster 15:23 about BRU not having the selection or service of BBB. |
We registered at BRU for the same reason, but I was shocked by the lack of selection, so we also registered through Amazon, which allowed me to add things from BBB, Target, etc. I think we have about an equal number of items designated on each registry. |
We registered for a few basics at BRU and bought everything else ourselves. I have to say, when I see someone has gone crazy registering at several stores and for big ticket items, I can't help but roll my eyes a bit. Everyone knows of BRU and most people have one near them |
Amazon has a great return policy on baby things! Free returns for 365 days... it doesn't beat that. Just make sure the item description says this. Most things marked as baby items and shipped by Amazon do. I've returned a few things that didn't pan out, and they take it back no questions asked. All you do is go through their returns process online, print out a shipping label, and either drop off at UPS or USPS. This is for things I've bought myself though, so investigate whether this also applies for gifts. |
The downside of Target is that most of their baby stuff is not available in store. We registered there but did not publish it--we just used the completion discount if items were less expensive. We went with BBB and Amazon. Amazon is great because not only does it ship free with Prime (including BIG stuff--a friggin' GLIDER shipped for free!) but you can add notes about the items. For example, I felt the need to explain why we wanted three Pack N Plays. It also has a feature where people can reserve items for you that they are buying somewhere else, so you won't get doubles. If someone bought something off the BBB registry (which I checked obsessively) I went on my Amazon registry and reserved it myself. so there's maintenance involved, but still, highly recommend it! |
oh, also with Amazon, we did not get any "free gifts" but you do get the completion discount available earlier than with other places. I think it starts a month (maybe more) before your event date. For BBB, we just got our coupon, and our due date is in 2 weeks. |
