I have the same question for private in VA for K fall 2011. Crazy?

If your child is a very strong candidate (no issues) there may be openings. There are a couple schools that have a few places for strong K or 1 boys.
Why are you looking now?

I am OP. I think DC would be a great addition anywhere, but I'm his mom! What do you mean by "strong candidate" - obviously no grades yet since he just finished K. We considered private for K ( we applied to 3. 2 of which he was accepted), but opted to give our neighborhood public a shot for a year. It has been a fine year, I think my DC would be happy anywhere. I have not been wowed by any means, and planned to stick with it until reconsidering at the 3 rd grade entry point. But the class sizes are rising dramatically at my DC's public es and I think it is not a positive situation for any child to be in a 1st grade class with 30 kids and 1 relatively inexperienced teacher. Please let me know where you think there may be openings. Thanks in advance.

Try Harbor School in Bethesda. I believe I heard that every other grade is full or nearly so, but there may still be openings in first grade.

I think Primary Day has one or two openings for first grade.

Not private but consider the Inspired Teaching Public Charter School. http://www.inspiredteachingschool.org

Every educator I know raves about the Center for Inspired Teaching (which is the founding group). Two teachers per class. Has openings in 1st - 3rd as far as I know.

How can an educator rave about a school that hasn't even opened yet?

For PP looking for K in Northern Virginia - Congressional is rarely full. Don't know anything about your DC, but I understand Congressional does not do well with active boys.
