I don’t think the action is useless - I think the activity is. It’s a pretty photoshoot where the Rota literally praised Emma for complimenting Kate on her tennis hand. Think about that. An 18-year-old complimenting a 40-year-old when really Kate is the one in a position of power. She should be building Emma up to take on all the challenges of a future Grand Slam. Instead she’s accepting compliments and being praised for it. And building up Emma is the bare minimum. The girl was able to be so successful in tennis by receiving a sports scholarship through the age of 18. How fantastic would it have been for Kate to raise funds enough to support 10 Emmas for a year? |
But isn’t the whole point of royalty that they are better than us by virtue of the blood? The British public is supposed to curtsy and tug the forelock when they meet their betters. So of course they compliment Kate. If this is something the British public thinks is objectionable (supporting a bunch of lazy people) then they should abolish the monarchy. |
PP-thanks for the info! That is nuts. I can't imagine being a neighbor spending $$$ for my house and having helicopters that close. Have they been doing that for decades or did this just start recently? |
Prince Charles and Princess Diana were traveling by helicopter to-and-from Highgrove Estates and Kensington Palace since before William was born. It's a 40-minute trip. So yeah....many decades.

dp since this is the least likely in your lifetime ( you living next door) your comment is really funny! I am pretty sure everyone who lived there know that it comes with the package ( Royals flying in and out) But, pp thanks for the laugh! |
They can’t win. If they had a big fancy church wedding with a designer dress, they would have been accused of trying to “act Royal.” I admire them for doing their own thing. |

The Royal family brought out the big guns this week. They deployed 84-year-old Princess Alexandra to the Chelsea Flower show. The woman should be sitting at home with her feet up and an IV line in.
I guess the Cambridges were overworked and doing two days in a row of engagements was just not going to happen. So Alexandra did it. |
Give it a rest. You’re making very asinine comments. I know you’re trying to convince people William and Kate don’t work but the only thing you’re convincing people of is that you’re petty and sort of weirdly obsessed with this topic. We don’t care. William and Kate have three young kids. They are super into their family and they do plenty of royal engagements. They’re not supposed to have a full time job - they’re royals and the uk as a whole seems perfectly fine with the status quo. Go take a walk or read a book. Maybe work out your anger in a healthy way. |
Double LOL. The kids are in school 5 days a week. All three of them. |
DP. Based on looking at UK polls, this is categorically not true, especially for the younger generation. There is a higher percentage of anti-royalists in the UK than ever before. Also, you are always in this thread talking about what "we" think -- it is very distinctive -- and it is weird. |
Princess Alexandra always attends the Chelsea Flower Show in support of her patronage of the British Rose Society. This is a wonderful charity that is something like the US government sponsored WIC program. To say that she should be sitting at home with her feet up and an IV line in is insulting to this important working member of the Royal Family. Should her older cousin, Queen Elizabeth II, be doing the same thing? |
Yes. |
| She looks great for 84! Spry and active. Sitting home is a good way to quickly decline, why would anyone recommend that? |

Trapped indeed.
Prince George paparazzi row: royals' truce with press under pressure "After decades of paparazzi intrusion, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have reached a fragile truce with the mainstream British press that has limited what is published about their children in the UK. According to an informal understanding, newspapers and websites will not publish unofficial photographs of Prince George or Princess Charlotte while they are growing up. In return, they are given access to a steady stream of images that have been sanctioned by the royal couple."
