clinton, arnold, the IMF guy.
why, in a position of extreme scrutiny and prominence, would you have an affair? putting aside all respect for your wife or for the institution of marriage, isn't having an extra marital affair just shooting yourself in the foot because if you get found out, your career could go down the tubes? are men just really really dumb? and why don't women do this more? more respect for family? for marriage? more likely to get blasted by the press and REALLY lose their jobs as opposed to the bill clintons who will pray it off and then laugh it off? |
| men and women are wired differently. men have affairs if they have options. |
i still don't get it; i guess you're saying men just have affairs b/c they're like animals - see an available female and mount it. no concern for wife or kids at home. but what about their own skin? does it not occur to them that getting found out will lead to their own demise? |
|
yes, men are dumb. truthfully, we have a lot of evidence now to suppor this statement. i mean, perhaps we could come up with a less insulting way to state it, but, yup.
power exempts you somewhat from the rules and laws established by society. those rules were put in place to distance humans from some of their more selfish instincts. the powerful can be more selfish, as they will not feel the consequences as immediately. except when they do. i wonder how rikers is treating him? |
| Because they can and believe, because they are powerful, that that power means they won't get caught. Oh, and men think with their dic%s |
That is an insult to men who believe in fidelity. Really. You don't cheat just because you have the option. Every person has the option - it is not as though people out there who have affairs are terribly picky about their affair partners. Only some people pursue those options. |
| because they are no different than any other man. 75-80% of men have affairs. The vast majority don't get caught and say nothing b/c they either regret it and won't repeat it or don't regret it but still...why say something? And even most of the men who do get caught are forgiven or its not a public spectacle. Men have learned how to play the relationship game very, very well. |
Ok, to those 10-20% of men who believe in fidelity (even if not for themselves), I apologize. |
Please cite your stats. |
| b/c their brains are in the pants (near the a$$ hole) |
| It's testosterone. Powerful men have lusts for power and sex. |
|
In the words of Lord Acton, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men."
|
| Men have needs, and these needs differ from women's needs. I don't think you can blame either gender for them. |
| I agree that testosterone has a lot to do with it. |
| I think there is a BIG difference between men who have affairs (like Clinton and Schwarzenegger) and the IMF guy who violently attacked a woman. Affairs are a personal betrayal (unless it is an "open" marriage), sexual assault is a crime. |
