Laser hair removal questions, again

Anonymous
Had my bikini line done with a Living Social deal, and am so very, very happy. Three rounds, and it's DONE. My life is forever changed.

Two questions:
What happens to the roots? So you've shaved the hair, the root remains below the skin, you get it zapped, and... then what? I haven't noticed little dead roots coming out. The curiousity is driving me mad.

And, serious question now, has anyone found a good deal for full leg lasering? The place that did my bikini line quoted me $2400 for 5 treatments. Wondering if there are better prices to be had. The groupon and LS deals I've seen are always just for a small area (bikini, underarms).

was it uncomfortable to have it done?

Check out Aphrodite Clinic in McLean, VA. They just had a Living Social deal, but the manager told me they will have another around Oct. I think their prices would be a lot less and they may let you upgrade to the full leg. Give them a call and see if you can work something out.

The roots get zapped out during the laser process. I'm surprised the hair is gone for you after only 3 sessions; I've had six and I still have growth.

It's not sensation-free, but it does not rise to the level of "pain". Mere discomfort, at most. They prescribe a numbing cream, and the good techs use an ice cube on the tip of the laser between zaps. Best comparison I can make is that it feels like plucking a hair, but less intense. For me, there was no irritation or discomfort of any kind afterwards. When it's over, it's over.

As for the roots getting zapped out, you mean like vaporized? Can't image how that would work. I can still see them for a day after. But then, sometime later, I'll notice that the black spots under the skin are just gone.

Where did you have it done? I'm dying to do this. Trying to work up the nerve.

Could you clarify? When you say bikini line, do you mean the whole area or just the edges? Sorry to ask, but this whole thread is TMI anyway...

No, I mean when they are hit with the laser they will pop out of the pore. Or they will come out when you exfoliate over the next few days. Just rub gently with a washcloth.

Just the edges. About 3-4 inches from the edge of bikini panties. I'll go back for more, though I'll never go full brazilian.

I'm currently doing my underarms and am very happy too. I also used a groupon and am doing it at Ruff Plastic Surgery on M Street. They are very professional and I like that it is a doctors office and not a medspa (although who knows if that makes a difference as the tech performs the service). There are groupons ALL the time for these so just sign up and you shoudl see one in the next month or two.

has anyone done bikini line more than a year ago and is still happy with it? i don't want to spend more than $1000 only to have a lot of regrowth.

Can't answer the question about long-term results, but do NOT pay full price for a small area like bikini. Groupon and Living Social have deals all the time. I paid $90 for three sessions. (Not $90 each... $90 total.)

Well, just like the gal who's insisting on the French stylist, I suppose we all have our own standards of "acceptable". I have no frame of reference for this sort of thing. My $90 deal was at an aesthetic medicine practice. I read the online reviews, saw no red flags, and it was fine. Your standards may vary.
