Why can't DC Govt tow cars blocking rush-hour lanes, but no problem for Montgomery County?

It's maddening when you're sitting in traffic because one of the three lanes is blocked by an illegally-parked car between 4-630pm in DC. Tow trucks are nowhere to be found. In Bethesda, by contrast, tow trucks are lined up at 359pm to ensure that the traffic flows more smoothly.

Have hope! I saw a car being towed yesterday on a relatively small street in DC in Glover Park that has restricted parking during the morning rush hour. It was parked illegally and being towed by a DC government tow truck, so I assume it was being towed for the illegal parking. Not sure why it got towed when others do not. Maybe it's a repeat offender or something?

Cars get towed all the time on 16th Street.

it all depends on the road / day.

I have seen them being towed on Mass - but WI recently has been really bad.

I have a theory - DC tows first on streets that most affect commuters within DC. If you come from MD or VA along a traditional route, good luck.

I often see cars getting towed after 4:30 on Independence.

12:20 - my first thought. I love it!

OP here. This car was probably being towed because someone complained. Which raises a whole new topic: proactive vs. reactive municipalities. If nobody ever complains about the car blocking one's commute to work, that car may be sitting there the next day!

I sincerely hope this is the case.

Complaints from irate Bethesdans (Bethesdinians?) leave me strangely unmoved.

They tow at 3:59 pm on Conn Ave. Now if they could only tow the cars who double park in front of the Sprint store on 18th to pay their cell phone bill.......

how much of a commuter tax would you be willing to pay to make sure your route was cleared every day?

None. I'd rather see D.C. residents choke on the smog all those idling cars produce.

I think it's episodic and limited to certain locations and/or times. They do tow around the zoo most days - but usually not till about 430pm. By contrast, they NEVER seem to tow the cars sitting near the upscale apartment buildings (or the UPS truck sitting in front of the UPS store) on Conn Ave just south of Chevy Chase Circle, and they never tow anywhere on Conn Ave in the AMs.

Yes! This! I hate sitting on Connecticut north of Nebraska because some idiot who can't read the parking signs didn't move his car for the AM rush.
