Would the USA be more "mom-friendly" if we got rid of Republicans?

Why do Republicans hate moms? They squash any attempt to lengthen family medical leave which moms use for maternity leave. They squash regulations to keep lead out of childrens toys, regulations to ban BPA in baby bottles and do other anti-consumer, anti-family things. Why are they like this? Don't republicans have kids too??

They aren't anti-mom. They are defensive of business interests, but you know what? That's not a wrong thing to do. We complain about business, but we all want a paycheck. There are countries where labor pritections have gone too far. I couldn't live in a country where everyone is on vacations for 2 months a year and where working long hours is illegal.

Don't get me wrong, I am a Democrat and I am generally pro labor and pro consumer. And I hate many GOP positions.

That said, I think their defense of business serves an important function, both in our economy and in our political system, and therefore I feel calling them anti-mom is unfair.

Hell, I could. A happy--and healthy--workforce is a productive workforce.

But hey! As long as billionaire oil barons get their subsidies, America can remain strong--right? With its angry, depressed, sick and poorly educated workers. Right? RIGHT? And just to make sure a whole lot more can join the ranks, let's defund Planned Parenthood in every state!

LOL to the 2nd poster. You are totally right. European countries seem to do just fine with their 2 month holidays and generous maternity leave. Any country that is NOT in the news usually is a nice place to live -- Denmark, NZ, Australia, etc. Too bad the USA is too busy competing with China (why do we want to be like China anyway!?!?!? It's horrible!) to see that it would be better if we were like Sweden.

How about if we just let the South secede after all? I mean, they can take all the rabid Republicans and their policies that lead to those states having the highest levels of poverty, divorce, obesity, teen pregnancy etc...Add to that no environmental regulations, no health care and see how they all fare.

OK, so I caught a lot of flak for the 2 months of vacations comment.

#1: teachers do not get paid for 12 months of work. By your logic, migrant farm workers get 9 months of "vacation".

#2: I do not mind individuals taking two months of vacation, or individual companies offering it as a benefit.

I DO mind the government mandating it. And having worked abroad, it sucks. They don't do just fine. It costs them productivity, and it's a pain to get anything done certain months of the year. It's really disruptive to have people gone that long. It is OK for jobs where you have low expectations or where the job is a line job, but it is unworkable in many professional situations. Maternity leave is an entirely different thing, I am all for it and also for paternity leave.

The two best things about teaching: July and August. Teachers can opt to have a 12-month paycheck instead of a 9-month pay check. They dont get paid more but they still get paychecks year-round.

Republicans do not hate moms anymore than all democrats love moms. You have FMLA (unpaid), save your vacation and sick leave and you can have about six months maternity leave. Lead-free and BPA-free products are available, so buy these. Everythng is not about you and you need to understand that the US is not a nanny state, at least not for now, but if people like you have their way it will be by the next century. Then nothing will get done. You are not the embodiment of the Madonna and Child. In other words, the sun does not rise and set with you; you are not the center of the universe; you are no more special than the rest of us. Ninety-nine percent of women accept this while doing our best without whining. Try it sometime.
