Need to find a new duvet cover

Anonymous
I think I have looked everywhere online that one could possibly look for a duvet cover -- Macy's, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, West Elm, Overstock, The Company Store, Kohls, Bed Bath and Beyond. I'm batting a zero here, with 3 failed and returned duvets. I guess I'm just really picky, but I can't seem to find anything attractive out there. There are a few from Pottery Barn that I like, but I feel like they all start to look the same after a while, and we have a beautiful Queen duvet from Pottery Barn in our guest bedroom (which we just bought last fall, not knowing that we'd be getting a King bed this spring) that I would put on our King bed, if only it would fit...

Anywhere obvious I am missing?

I've actually found covers at IKEA that I like. But, you really need to see the prints in person. Online they all look a little drab/similiar.

I love Ralph Lauren for bedding - usually get it at Bloomingdale's, but they sell it on polo.com. You might also check SmartBargains.com and Garnet Hill.

I've found a few Calvin Klein patterns I've liked over the years and while not luxurious-feeling, they have held up very well. Restoration Hardware designs can be somewhat plain, but the feel and quality is good.

What colors, look (modern, classic, formal, etc?), fabric are you after?

I second Garnet Hill. They have lovely things that are very high in quality.

This would probably help to know, right? So I bought these sheets from Kohls (on sale -- did not pay $200 for them, in fact I paid around $30!) in the spa blue color, thinking I would just LOVE one of the duvets I had ordered (and then had to return). Pretty similar to the color as it appears online. We kept the sheets because we needed something to sleep on, as we have a new king bed and no bedding! I did buy a plain textured cream colored quilt/coverlet for the summer, so it's not a huge rush, but I just want to find something. Like I said, I'm really indecisive. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know! We're willing to look at different styles (we've had stripes, paisly, flowers, prints, etc. over the years) although we are not overly modern. Preferably not plain white/cream for the duvet, as I want some color in the room.

Clearly the link to the color of the sheets would help... http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/bedandbath/sheets/solid/PRD~c19190/Simply+Vera+Vera+Wang+800Thread+Count+Sheet+Set.jsp

I just got the Serena & Lily catalogue today and that had several nice duvet covers. Also try http://www.jonathanadler.com.

They are not difficult to make. If you can find sheets/fabric that you love, you can make them yourself. Or take to a seamstress and have made.

Are you a member of the daily sale sites like One Kings Lane, Rue La La, Hautelook, and Gilt? They often have sales for high-end bedding designers like Frette and Anichini.

I've been obsessing over the same thing. I think I've decided on an Ikea duvet cover. I like the pattern and figure that it's not too much of a loss if it doesn't work out. We have a restoration hardware one now and it's really nice, but we got a white one and so it's a nightmare to keep clean. plus, my cat has clawed holes in it as she's tried to jump on the bed (she's a little too fat). i've found crate and that type of store to charge out of proportion with how nice the fabric feels.

this might be the one i am thinking about: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00171233 whichever one it was, it was really soft.

Never heard of these sites. How do they work? Are they worth signing up for?

OP here -- thanks for all of the suggestions! Keep them coming, I seriously have been looking for months now...

I'm a member of Rue La La and Gilt. Not familiar with One Kings Lane or Hautelook, do you need an invite for these two?

I really like the Serena & Lily covers. I bought mine at Bloomingdales.
