I have a neighbor who claims things about the old neighbors. We've lived here 15+ years so I don't give a xxx what fake agreements they had with the old neighbors which I know were a lie from other neighbors. |
| If this is true you should post on the real estate section. This could be problematic. I would now not allow anyone to walk through and build a fence. Even if it is a chain link one. |
| You win, OP, and your prize is a new reputation as the biggest wanker in the cul de sac. |
I guess you can win the battle and lose the war. These people will probably all be hostile towards OP and exclude her kid(s). That's the risk you take when you go nuclear with something like this. Time will tell if it was worth it to preserve the lawn but alienate the neighbors. |
Oh the drama! NP here. OP: fence, stat. |
+1 Imagine living in a neighborhood where that is the mentality - that would suck! |
| You are really uptight. |
Wait. He’s angry at you because your house is not a public park??!! Did you write back? |
Talk about a stretch--OP not enjoying having kids walk through their yard several times each school day is a long way from "peeking out their windows, tracking the neighbor children." Don't let them shame you, OP. You're doing nothing wrong or creepy. I'd do whatever makes you comfortable. YOU are paying for your land. If a fence wouldn't bother you that's the simplest way to deal with it. You can plant nice bushes and flowers. I doubt many kids would hop a fence. My neighbor's kids do, but I'm okay with it. Unlike PP, I don't think that means that you have to be okay with kids in your yard. |
| Yeah I might not even respond to that email. Nutty |
| We had a situation similar to this in our neighborhood (my family was uninvolved, but it played out in front of us). I find OP’s story very believable, including the part about the claim a real estate agent implied there was an easement. In our neighborhood, several families totally erroneously claimed that it was illegal to put in a fence without a gate that the children could use to cut through the yard. Total BS! The bullied neighbor finally put in a high fence - totally within her rights. Years later people still trash talk her. |
| I wrote earlier to let it be or you will he consider the mean lady’s house and it could effect your children.. well.. |
I think you need a hobby, but on the other hand, everyone knows realtors will lie through their teeth to make a sale. How much further do the kids have to walk without the shortcut? Are they walking in traffic? |
Neighbors that treat other people's property as their cut - through/trespassing path without speaking to the homeowner are the ones who do the alienating. You can really tell in this thread who does and doesn't teach their kids that they are entitled to other people's property. Time will tell how that works out for you!

Amusing that they took issue with other people crossing through their yard in the past and got upset with your kids doing it, yet feel livid they can't cross through your yard daily. |
