Are tattoos trashy? Yay or Nay and why?

Tattoos on men, especially in 2024, look ho-hum and ordinary.

Tattoos on women look ugly, messy and cheap--no matter the execution, the design, the size, or the location.

I've never met a woman to whom I would have said "you're kind of cute, but oh, I do so wish you had a tat."

Lose the trend, just take care of your body.

Period, that's it? Nothing but judgment, let's go all in on the smug contempt?

Are women with open heart surgery scars not allowed to get a tattoo over it, just so they don't have to be reminded of that pain every time they undress, or is that ugly, messy, and cheap? Does it somehow make them "easy?"

What about mastectomy scars, or tumor removal sites, or kids who used to be preemie babies and still have scars from all the ports and lines in the NICU? Is is just too bad, so sad, you get what you get and you don't get to change it, you gross, ugly, messy, cheap person?

Sorry that you’re triggered but scars and elective tattoos are not the same thing.

No, I think it's a trauma thing. Seems to be the issue with most people I know who have visible tattoos and significant piercings.

That's what I have observed among my friends as well. Large visible tattoos and more than a couple piercings usually indicate some sort of trauma.

all are trashy. Just own your masectomy scar and get over it.

Trashy just like fake nails, eyelashes, too many piercings, jewelry on kids.

Yeah, no. I have it on good authority that "A tattoo on a human body looks like a sticker on a nice car or graffiti on a beautiful building. Period. ...
Tattoos on women look ugly, messy and cheap--no matter the execution, the design, the size, or the location. "

Try out nuance for size.

Yeah, those former NICU kids with facial and hand scars just need to toughen up. Don't give them any other alternatives to help cope -- it just coddles them.

Sorry about your trauma but no one is forced to cover up surgical scars with tattoos. If you want to do that, then good for you. you do you boo. People aren’t going to applaud every decision that you make in life.

Her nails tell you just about everything you need to know. FWIW I had open heart surgery about 10 years ago, and the scar is almost invisible now (thanks to a good surgeon the right after care).

I don't cover my scar with a tattoo, but I think you're more than kind of gross for criticizing those that do.

So now you're blaming people whose bodies naturally form keloids for their genetics, and saying they could have prevented it by choosing a better surgeon and being more careful with aftercare? That's a lie. Gross.

Trashy. How is this even a question.

So because someone has suffered health issues we all need to applaud their aesthetic preferences? Sorry no.

I don’t want strangers or friends coddling, lying, or placating me simply because I experienced health issues and I think you’re “more than kinda gross” for demanding that treatment of entitled victimhood.

I’m 68F and would normally agree with trashy. But can we talk about Jeffrey Star? Hot.
