Show me the lie. |
It’s a wow for me too, dawg! |
This isn't remotely true. And even if it was, most of them couldn't make it through the engineering program at VT, which is the point you missed from my post. A Tech engineering degree is incredibly valuable and definitely worth more than a generic W&M degree out of college. You show you ass when you make generalizations, especially about industries you don't know. And I'm not even a Hokie. I work with several and they're in-demand and make really good money upon graduation. |
Yeah, it’s true. GPA & SAT for entering Freshmen at W&M > VT Engineering, by a healthy margin. I didn’t go to either school, but it is what it is. VT - overall - has an acceptance rate of 70%. That’s not even remotely selective, especially in comparison to schools that are being mentioned here as peer institutions - e.g. Georgia Tech (21%). |
' UVA, UNC, and W&M are not borderline Ivy. |
Exactly. Harvard’s endowments are roughly $40 Billion dollars. To put that in perspective of how much money that is the budget for the State of Virginia is $67 Billion dollars. Yale’s endowments are $30 Billion dollars. |
For people so educated, you sure are dopes. |
The point is, not only is a Ivy education terrific but the social network one can leave a Ivy with is unparalleled in regards to future and current industry leaders. |
Sure, Harvard and Yale are in a different league. But UVA is absolutely competitive with the lower ivies. UVA’s endowment is $7B which is the same as Cornell and considerably higher than Brown and Dartmouth. When people think of Ivies they are really thinking Yale and Harvard and Princeton which are the top for sure but UVA is right there with the others in just about any category. |
So we moved the goal posts from W&M to UVA. Good because that shows were W&M really falls in line in the pecking order, which is still very good but nowhere near “wow”. |
Well, both W&M and UVA are on the list of 8 original “public ivies” when that term was invented in 1985. Whatever that is worth. All these rankings are rather silly though. There are basically 3 tiers: top 20, top 100, and everything else. Trying to rank within tiers is splitting hairs and really depends more on particular major or sport. |
| Could we get back to talking about 14 year old soccer -- still a few years for them before they get to commit.... |
| Lets talk about FCV having to travel 5 hrs to play a rec level team in GA regular season. |
Any ECNL doesn't have it's bottom dwellers too (I'm looking at you BRYC)? |
| It’s actually nice playing an ECNL bottom dweller within 30mins from your house as opposed to in NJ if team played in GAL. Can play BRYC and still have a family dinner at our house. |
