People have actually heard of Stanford, many of their millennial alums are filthy rich tech titans, and people want to live in the Bay Area. The same can not be said for Northwestern and Chicago, their young alums, and greater Chicago (unless you're a Midwest yokel). |
You sound like the worst kind of cliche, the type of person that people on both sides of the aisle despise. I’ll always laugh at Virginians who think they’re evolved and sophisticated — LOL. |
Exactly. A Midwestern yokel? Virginia is in the south. I wouldn’t be calling anyone a yokel, many are located just outside your backyard. |
| Chicago has always since the 1890s been a top flight research institution in the European model that historically did not care/cater to undergraduates. They have maintained the academic rigor and intellectualism, plus academic critical thinking and more freedom of speech than other schools, while investing in dorms and gyms and growing the undergraduate profile. It seems to be a winning combination. I view it as, U Chicago learned how to market the assets they have, as opposed to the decades where they just did not care about undergraduates. |
Arrogant and Ignorant all in one sentence. |
| They've both been top schools for as long as there have been top schools. |

It’s sort of sad/hilarious that a lot of people are only recently discovering UChicago. It’s always been an exceptional school, and people who know anything about academia know that.
Acceptance rate means nothing. My sister and I were both accepted to UChicago from top prep schools. We both saw high stats kids get rejected from UChicago (at a time when UChicago had a 30% acceptance rate) because they weren’t the type of kid UChicago wanted. UChicago cared much less about SAT/ACT score back then; instead, they wanted kids who really craved an intense academic experience. I think my sister was one of the only kids to get into UChicago from Horace Mann in the prior 2-3 admissions cycles. In any case, I feel like UChicago has lost some of the idiosyncrasy that made it special. They never should have started accepting the Common App. |
UChicago and Stanford could not be more different, as schools. Stanford wants to turn all their undergrads into the next Mark Zuckerberg. It’s sort of gross. |
| UChicago has been a sought after school since the 70’s. |
This is simply not true. UChicago has always been a respected name in academia, but certainly not a “sought out” school. Northwestern, on the other hand, has always been fairly prestigious and popular among applicants, and has a long roster of significant alumni throughout its history to back it up. Both schools have ramped up in popularity in recent decades. |
Says someone who has no idea what they’re talking about. UChicago has been “sought out” by kids who want a serious, intense academic experience. And in terms of significant alumni throughout its history: the number of Nobel laureates who went to UChicago is practically unparalleled, so I’m not sure why you’re acting like Northwestern has a more impressive alumni roster. |

If you’d like to peruse UChicago’s alumni list, Wikipedia has quite a long article on it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_University_of_Chicago_alumni
But sure — it hasn’t been sought out. Maybe not by random suburban kids, but UChicago has always attracted impressive people. |
Go away Chicago troll. Always so insecure |
