Bumping thread for "Peloton fans," as there seems to be a need for posting pro-Peloton somewhere .
Is JJ still around, or did she end up leaving? |
JJ departed a while back and her rides were cleared a few months ago when she started to work with The Ladder app. On the Pro, I love the new bike boot camps. They are awesome. I have not tried the Barre or the resistance band classes that started recently. Lots of new equipment and classes of late. |

Hey, it strikes me that this is the perfect thread to have people explain why they got a Peloton.
Anyone want to go into details about that? |
I got mine 2 1/2 years ago. I loved to Spin and was spending a lot on spin classes. I also run and swim and thought this was a great way to add something to my workout schedule, especially in the winter when I don't cycle outside. While it was around then, it didn't come with the same pretention. I just thought it would be great. I didn't get it b/c I thought it was the hot thing. |
| Is there something about the bike itself (whatever model) which is better than other spinning bikes? Is it, I don't know, less prone to need mechanical fixes? |
Yes back or front wheel is VERY important. Back wheels will easily bulk your thighs because it’s more a stepping motion and front wheel is a pulling motion like a Pilates reformer. |
I enjoyed spin classes at the gym but found the times that classes were offered did not work for my family. I cannot exercise at night and get enough sleep so night time classes were not doable and my work schedule made the morning/afternoon classes not doable. DH suggested the Peloton for the house because I enjoy spin and the bike was known to be good. I have no idea if he looked at other options, knowing him he did. Having looked at other bikes now, the support is no where near as good and the content is no where near as good. On top of the spin classes just being better, I use the strength, yoga, and meditation on the Peloton. The bike is great but the other programming is wonderful. Could you get a different bike and use the app? Sure. But I like the connectivity between the bike and the app. I don't want to have to tinker with other bikes and measuring output and the like. |
I have loved spinning since the 90s, but I really dislike going to the gym—I hate leaving the house in cold weather, I hate the smell, and I prefer exercising alone. The value of the gym for me was all in the quality of the equipment and the professional instruction. So I feel like they made Peloton for me! I’ve had mine for 2.5 years and really love it. I’ve bought home equipment before, but this is the only thing I’ve stuck with—which makes sense, since I had a long history with spinning. The bike is top-notch, and the instruction is fantastic. Totally worthwhile investment. |
