Should McLean Pre-ECNL players consider Spirit DA?

^^ For the top 08s PPs were weighing whether better to spend another year with no competition and 9v9 in NCSL with lesser skilled teammates or take on the challenge of U13 by playing up in a DA a year early. I don't think anyone was talking about a permanent thing, just that if your DD was good enough and could make DA with the 07s for a year, then why not. The 07 competition is not as strong as other age groups. She could just repeat U13 at age the next year. Of course, your DD should be on a strong 08 team and a starter.

That’s a good point. And then repeating the year will give her a solid leg up.

Can I ask if the VA Spirit 2007 team has had success this season? Trying to gauge how they will do next year as a DA team. Anyone out there willing to say whether parents and girls like the coach? I heard there are already 2 2008 girls playing on that team - true?

I saw your team play twice. They lost one game and tied the other. Did the players look like "elite" 08 players? Sure. Did any look like they should be playing against elite players an age group up, like Loudoun 07? Nope. Sorry that offends you.

Loudoun 07 is strong, but not joining any DA. McLean Green 08s don't face that competition at WS, or ARL DA for that matter. Why so bitter on 08s? They have better players as a whole.

It's not "bitter" to think that, since DA/ECNL is supposed to be the best of the best, that there would be almost no playups at the youngest age groups. As others have said, we either have too many "elite" DA/ECNL options or the players aren't moving over from other clubs, if DA/ECNL teams are all consistently including 3-4 playups at u-13/u-14.

There are too many options, but if that door is open because of it, I don't see any problems with posters taking advantage of it assuming their daughter can handle it and wants something better then what their current teams are doing next year.

I know GDAs are also looking to develop early if daughter is ready. Haters call it roster fillers, but that's just bitterness. For every 08 playing up there was a mediocre 07 who got cut. Not a big deal, especially with a wealth of good 08s around.

The lowest age group in girls DA (VA Spirit included) is U13 (06). Spirit has had several 07s and an 08 play for their U13 team. I would not be surprised if the 08 moves up to U14 next year. There is of course another Spirit 07 player who has played exclusively U14/U15 so far. Realizing that the Spirit U13 and U14 teams have only been playing together for a season it is impressive that they can play competitively against top competition. For example in the top bracket of the CASL tournament (now called VisitRaleigh.com) U13 Spirit VA lost their three games 3-0, 1-0, and 2-1. Arlington DA and VDA ECNL (Number 1 in the U13 ECNL locally) were also in this bracket and neither of them advanced to finals either.

In the pre DA/ECNL ages, the 2008s have the talent in the DMV. The 2007s as a whole are weaker and you have to look outside the DMV. A lot of 2008s can break into 13U next year. Texas teams show how the DMV 2007s just can't compete. It's weird but true.
