We liked the Stratford STEM schools in California. For profit. |
Nope, just not willing to experiment with Whittle 1.0 with my kids. If you want your kids to be the test cases, go for it. |

To the used car salesperson booster, I’m guessing they didn’t get as many applications as the hoped for? |
"THE PRESIDENT OF YALE - WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT" ranting is misleading and irrelevant in Whittle's ambition to unseat Exeter, Sidwell, and the "elites" it sees as revenue competition. The person in question, Benno Schmidt Jr. age 76, was the president of Yale from 1988-1992 with mixed results. He and Whittle started Edison, then Avenues and he's been board chair at CUNY during reform efforts. To my knowledge, he does not speak Mandarin, is not a teacher, and has no experience with schools in Washington, DC or foreign affairs circles here. I fail to see what additional value, financial or educational, he brings other than marketing to people who are easily impressed by the word Yale.
Does anyone have anything useful to add about Whittle's recruitment and activities in China? Any names to drop from this century? (I would ask about Sao Paulo, but I assume they don't face as much competition as here in DMV.) |
James Mattis, George Schultz, Rupert Murdoch, Tim Draper were just a few of the investors/board members of Theranos. Their investment history and succcess in other areas did not make Theranos any less of a fraud and failure. That a Yale leader is on the “advisory board” doesn’t make it legit nor destined for success. |

Will Whittle be informing of their regular acceptance cycle on March 1 as well? |
Why do all the nay sayers even take the time to weigh in here? Are your lives really that empty and inner confidence that small that you feel you have to cut a place down that your not even interested in learning more about? I have no affiliation to Whittle other than wanting to learn more to determine if it is a fit for my child. I’m an intelligent adult who can analyze for myself and just want perspective on mission and plans. The negativity folks bring is ugly, distracting, and annoying. It is not informative in any way. Go show your bully selves in the real world and stop hiding here to live out your disfunctional power fantasies. So sad... |
I’m not sure I’ve seen a ton of ugliness in these comments. People are interested in discussing independent schools by virtue of the fact that they are on this board. From there, when a school that is for-profit (somewhat revolutionary) describes itself as revolutionary, it warrants discussion. From there, when the school is promoting itself like a timeshare in an upscale mall, people talk. And then there is the matter of obvious paid/shill posts on this board using language that no enthusiastic but new parent would use. So it’s not ugly. It’s a bit of trust but verify, skepticism and cynicism that is well deserved for a very expensive, unproven school with a ton of flash but very little substnace and literally no track record. |

And to 8:03 I am just curious as to what the pitch is that one would be willing to the the first to step into a brand new school with zero track record and Whttle's spotty track record, when given other options in the city and region. |
Note to Whittle booster. You need to be more subtle in your promotions to be effective on a board like this. Triple and quadruple exclamation points, and trotting out a former President of Yale over and over is too obvious, and makes you seem desperate and is not very savvy. |
