A free charter is not the same as a small break on $50k tuition.
You can try out the free thing easier than the still 30-40k thing. |
Parents who try charter schools are not typically wealthy. For those with very high net worths, perhaps 50K isn't a big deal. |
100%. Look, if Whittle wants to offer free tuition for my kids, I'd think about it. But for that kind of cash, or even close to that kind of cash, I want the real deal. |
The difference is that those people have many great alternatives. Why would I try Whittle if I could get GDS or Sidwell or a New England boarding school or whatever? Charter schools are drawing kids where the parents don't like the current options. |
The question was about whether people would be willing to take a risk on an unproven school, not whether they were willing to pay for one. My point was that yes--there obviously are. Then, I'm sure we all know people (or at least have seen people on this board) who don't like their options (waitlisted etc) and for whom tuition isn't a major concern, and if it is an issue, from what I've heard, Whittle has offered scholarships between 5 and 20k/year, so it's potentially cheaper than independent privates. |
You made sense, until you suggested that the stop work order was something they and their covert surveillance could actually benefit from. |
Yes, I agree. I was the initial poster preferring the theory that it was government backed. But, the notion that the zoning problem is some orchestrated act to covertly install surveillance equipment is ridiculous. |
A free charter school as an alternative to the in-boundary public =/= $51k vaporware school. |
Really? When was this? So now they have a SWO the construction company thinks they don't have to pay workers. I expect Whittle would still have to pay the construction company under the terms of their contract. Which for all the equipment that is standing around, I suppose the workers salary comes last. Another interesting dimension to this big screw up. |
Do families that had planned to go there have back up options in mind? |
I'd consider Whittle if I wanted my kids to get to know hundreds of Chinese princelings. Thanks but not a priority. If we think many Big 3 kids are spoiled...those princelings are in a different league. |
Yet another example of how many people who use this board don’t actually stop to think about what they are saying and how infantile they sound... |
And racist too. |
Getting kind of racist. |
What’s racist about talking about billionaires versus millionaire? |
